I rang Setanta first to cancel and got given two options (currently pay £12.99 a month)

£9.99 for a a further year (tied into contract) or £6.50 for the next 3 months which I opted for in order that I can call back again to cancel in 3 months and see whats on the table then

They are likely to introduce a price increase in July by the way

The I called SKY currently have 6 mix plus sports £39.50 a month

Again was offered 3 options when I asked to cancel SKY Sports from my subscription

switch to movies instead for £29.50 a month

Sky Sports for £3 for the next 3 months saving £32 for the next 2 months

    20% off for the next 6 months £31.60 a month saving £47.40

I opted for the later, and was also able to get them to include movies as part of this deal

so instead of paying £46 for everything I got a deal of £36.80 a month for the next 6 months saving £9.20 a month saving £55.20

At the end of this period I shall quite happily call them and if necessary as I have done previously cancel any parts of my package that they are not willing to make a deal on

    Definately worth a call
  • My friend rang to cancel setanta for the summer, and he was told by their telephone operator that there was no point re-subscribing in the summer as they wnt be showing any games at all.

I've currently got Sky Sports for £5 a month, lasts for another 6 weeks, so should just squeeze in the 1st ashes tests. best thing about it all they offered me the package so make sure you are registered with sky to accept marketing calls from them. They also offered me Movies for £8.25 a month but I declined as we have love film and never manage to watch more than a couple of films a month

I thought that, but the guy on the phone said that they have definitely got the pre season friendlies and 42 games next season and then the season after will be heavily reduced....

I am in the slightly unusal position in so far as I rang them to actually connect Sky sports (and a couple of other packages) as I had moved recently and before the move I took the package down to its basic so I wanted to take it back up again.

Before ringing them I actually tried to upgrade through the TV to get £5 credit for subscribing through the TV but this did not work so I gave them a ring. Anyway my package was going to work out to £37.50 a month but when I rang them up to complain about it not going through the telly they offered me the same package for £28.50 for three months. I was going to keep it on for the Ashes anyway so I snapped the offer up quite happily.

And now I have just gotten through the email an offer for sky movies free for a month - when I ring them to cancel it at the end of the free month they may very well offer a deal.
  • Anyone tried adding Sky Sports now to the Sky packages - can you haggle to bring down the price?
  • I just rang Sky, asked to remove the Sports package and they did so without giving me any offers or anything. Fair enough I suppose, I'm still saving money that I would have wasted had I not seen this article!

A couple of weeks ago I contacted Sky to cancel the full package (TV, Movies & Sports) costing me about £47 per month.

They didn't offer any deal and service will be cancelled on 11th June.

Good riddance I say, Rupert Murdoch can stick it all where the sun don't shine.
The bankers stole my pension (and everyone else's). It should have earned a lot of money, but they took their bonus pot first.
  • I have Setanta on Freeview and rang up to cancel... (before I saw this thread btw) offered (eventually) £3.33 for 3 months. This will give me a chance to see what matches will be shown next season, and there is nothing to stop me ringing back after that for the sake of a 10 minute phone call, free if you call the geographical number shown on this thread. For info I was offered (in order) £9.50/mth for 6 months, then £8.50/mth for 12 months before the £3.33 for 3 months which I took!
