The power of your argument has convinced me,we should extend the policy of banks to the retail sector,and on all transactions ,the customer must produce two forms of ID and have it photo-copied,that would prevent fraud do you agree?It would slow down the transaction time ,but no problem ,because the banks make us wait.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]To be happy you need to make someone happy.[/FONT]0

I think this is a good idea and perhaps banks should look to introduce counter PIN pads for this purpose. I don't believe blindly that chip & PIN is the answer to all evils, by the way, but it's certainly a step forwards in some respects.
However, consider the fact that we're all running about with debit cards - we can use these to purchase goods and services without using cash, plus we can draw small-ish amounts of cash from ATMs. I suspect most banks and building societies are seeing far fewer counter cash withdrawals than ever before, so perhaps the investment wouldn't be worth it.kenshaz wrote:The power of your argument has convinced me,we should extend the policy of banks to the retail sector,and on all transactions ,the customer must produce two forms of ID and have it photo-copied,that would prevent fraud do you agree?
Don't need to - retailers have chip & PIN now.
Anyway, I suspect we're getting off-topic now, I imagine the original poster has long ago lost the will to live (wonder if he ever got his car?)

knowing from personal experience of a colleague who was a victim of ID theft & had various credit card & store card bills sent & the absolute nightmare of trying to sort it out & prove that they didn't apply for them I'm not surprised these things have been put in place
these further checks have only been brought in for large amounts not everyday transactions, so the analogy of taking your passport to do your Tesco shop, for instance, is a bit ropey
& is Kenshaz one of these people who pours scorn on a system in place but if they fall victim to the scam would be the first to place the blame at the feet of the financial institution for not taking necessary care with their money - I hope it doesn't happen to you, Kenshaz0 -

many years ago i was a bank cashier and yes it annoyed me - but i had to followed rules, or else give the money to anyone (and yes rules to protect bank and CUSTOMERS money)
They have to ask questions at counter - else banks would never be open and you would not have cash0 -
kenshaw if you are so worried about getting your cash out and being asked questions, why not keep your money under your matress?0

regularsaver1,then I would be silly,but regarding the rules that you had to abide by in regard to cross examination,yes it is easy for the policy makers to send down tablets of stone ,but it is the counter staff who face the public,and they should have good training and support,I believe that they are told ,make a mistake and you are responsible ,therefore they are over zealous .[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]To be happy you need to make someone happy.[/FONT]0
