How to withdraw cash from bank?

Hi,
I need to withdraw £10,000 from my HSBC Graduate account to buy a car. I've never had to go into branch and withdrwa cash (due to usually only requiring £100 or so from ATM).
I'm unsure how I would go about this?!?
1. Do I need to ring up and tell them, so they can get cash ready?
2. What ID will I need to show?
I'm asking her as HSBC customer services is rubbish and cant get through, and the website is equally useless. Seems all geared up for attracting new customers.
Thanks in advance!
Phil

You would have to go into branch and tell thim in advance.
The best thing is to get a Bankers Cheque for the value of the car.0 -
Yes a bankers draft would be advisable however banks charge for them. If you require cash they will need at least 24 hours notice and you will need 2 forms of ID to obtain the cash.
ID Passport or drivers licence
Bank statments/cash card
I always use to advise customers to take as much id as possible incase one piece was insufficent.
If possible take 2 pieces with your photo on and 2 to confirm your address which they use to match with the computers.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 0650 -
It would also be best to try and avoid lunch times because of likely queues.Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0

Yeah good point, then again with the amount he should be able to arrange it to happen in a private room and at a suggested time for security reasons.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 0650

A bankers draught isn't worth the paper its written on. Just write a normal cheque to the dealer/seller, anyone who gives you a car to drive away on the basis of a 'bankers draught' needs their head testing.
If your really after £10K in readies then just ring the bank and ask them what their policy is regarding large cash withdrawals. They will probably need notice (because banks don't carry large sums like £10k!!) and every bit of ID you have in order to establish you are not a member of al-Quada or some crack seller/arms dealer/mass murderer etc....
Why not go in wearing a teatowel on your head and carry a replica Uzi just to watch the expression on their faces change!
(No actually don't do that.)0 -
They can call the bank to verify the draft before he gets the car and he had to have the funds in the account before the bank would release the draft.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 0650

I would ask the garage how they would like to be paid.
I had a hell of an argument with a customer not long ago because he wanted a large withdrawal without notice and refused to believe me that we did not carry the amount he required spare.
We arranged bits of cash here and there and at branches along the way to the dealer only for him to be turned away there because they would not accept such a large amount of cash! So he had to toddle off back to the nearest branch he could find and pay the money back and buy a bankers cheque.
I always honk at the p***k whenever I see him now!0 -
Why do you have £10,000 in a HSBC graduate account!?
It's earning you 0.08%

When I bought my new car (just over £8000) it didn't occur to me to use bankers draft or even cheque, I just put it on my HSBC Switch card. Is this not normal??£2 Coin Savers Club £14 :j (joined 18/2/06)0
