exactly! - Kenshaz is under the impression that the systems in place are down to Bank policy, but many are acts of law which the banks must abide by
Go to prison for making a mistake ,do we live in the same country, because that sounds like a police state, the cashier would have to have intent to be guilty of a criminal act,not bank policy .The government or the justice system does not state that we must have photo ID and it be photo -copied before we can draw cash at the counter, and I would be happy to challenge that in court

It was the garage who wanted a bankers cheque and would not accept his personal one.
We went to a great degree of trouble by arranging encashments along the way (it was £25k!) which could have been avoided if he had listened and phoned the dealer from the branch to see if cash was acceptable.
Sorry if you think banks are Micky Mouse because they don't have sufficent cash to satisfy your whims, but hey I'm sure you cash that amount all the time right?
    Not banks YOUR bank

He doesn't need to use his imagination because he's right, kenshaz. I don't know what news report you're referring to, but those of us who actually have some experience in the industry are trying our level best to tell you what is actually happening.

Of course, as far as you're concerned we're all peddling the lies of the mysterious cabal who plot our every move. Tin foil hat, anyone?

I'm sorry, but sometimes there really is no point at all in trying to engage in sensible discussion with someone who won't budge from their dogmatic point of view. Especially if their only contribution is to send a series of antagonistic responses to every point of view that is contra to their own.

Experience in the industry is a phrase that you use on a regular basis, and that gives you the right to stand for the profit making banking industry, fine ,that is your right and I respect that, but please do not engage in
the use of creative phrases to describe my response. If you wish to jump through hoops fine, but I do not want to follow, unless it is to my advantage,i.e Tarting.

I would draw your attention to the Data Protection Act 1998,and the keeping of information electronic and paper, when your pass-port is photo-copied for the purpose of drawing cash,it is kept for an unspecified time at the sole discretion of the bank.

No it doesn't in itself. I have never set myself up as "spokesman for the banks" and for you to suggest otherwise is quite frankly disingenuous. If you'd actually taken the time to read one of my earlier posts, I've said before that there are some aspects of the financial services industry that consumers should quite rightly be aggrieved about - it's just that this isn't one of them.

Having some background knowledge about the reasons why particular processes are carried out means I can post to offer information where it is relevant. Other people are free to believe me or not. If they don't, it's their loss.

I'm not entirely certain that you do, to be honest. :)

I'm being literal. Look up "dogmatic" and "antagonistic" in your dictionary.

Clearly, the world is out of step and you are right, in your mind. There is nothing anyone can say to disavow you of that. You clearly had one bad experience in a bank some time ago regarding an attempted cash withdrawal and you're using it to colour your argument now.

In my view there is nothing more I can add to this thread - I would be banging my head against a brick wall. :wall:

I'll assume any further responses are just trolling.

If they do not believe you, it is their loss ,that sounds rather arrogant to me,and i am sincere about listening to others, but you only believe in yourself, your words

Bernard, the withdrawal, was not an attemped one,I actually completed the transaction, and I was compensated at a later date for incorrect procedures

Considering the DPA (1998) is generally accepted to mean data held and processed on a computer, I hardly think a photocopy of a passport will fall under it's jurisdiction. However, if you can point to the specific sections found on http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts1998/19980029.htm to contradict this...? In fact http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts1998/80029--d.htm#31 (31 Subsection 2, part a, i) seems to actively indicate that any activity designed to prevent financial loss is excluded from the act.
