I registered with the forum espesially to tell you that the birthday cakes in Costco are full of hydrogenated vegetable oil, (trans fats) very dangerous, banned in other countries and soon to be banned here.
Nearly all the Costco bakery products are stuffed with hydrogenated poison, as is the wonderfully cheap Skippy peanut butter which someone mentioned. Stop poisoning your children with it and they will be forced to sell safe products.

Not that I have ever had any of their birthday cakes, however can you provide a link to the evidence for that fact?
I am sure many people will be interested
    Many thanks
    Just read the ingredients

I just called Costco for some 225/50 17" tyres. £201 each for Michelin Pilot Primacy!!!!

    Outrageously expensive.

Errr .... thats a wide low profile tyre and the price is competitive - just checked blackcircles.com and they charge the same price - Costco is turn up on spec without the 1 or 2 day delay that the online tyre retailers have.

So why outrageously expensive ? Tongue in cheek perhaps ?!
  • I don't know if it's true but a member of Costco staff told me when I went to buy a bulk pack of Duracell batteries that Costco's own brand of batteries (Kirkland) is made by Duracell and are therefore exactly the same. I have used the Kirkland ones and they do seem to last as long as Duracell.

I always buy their own brand stuff if it's cheaper and I can honestly say it is as good as the branded stuff. Batteries too.;)

I try to go to go to Costco with someone else and split purchases where possible. This saves having to store loads of non-food stuff, and enables me to buy fresh food that I wouldn't otherwise risk buying as we wouldn't be able to get through it all.

I love the fresh meat - much better quality than anything you buy in the supermarket. The local Costco in MK had just opened a new fresh fish counter which looks lovely, but I haven't tried it yet.

I have resigned myself to the fact that I always spend £200 (give or take £20) on every visit to Costco. Even if I think I will pop in for 1 or 2 things, I usually see something else (eg an appliance...), and spend £200 pretty much every time I go!

Can you still do the trick of having a "camp bicycle" card, that everyone in the ring borrows to wave as they shop at Costco? I thought they checked ID's these days?

On the subject of Michelin tyres, supplied to the south of Britain from a depot in Basildon, when Costco says "jump" Michelin says "how high?"

I was told by an employee if an item has a 7 ( ie £4.77) at the end of it, it's probably reduced at Costco. I've seen this with clothes I can remember at higher prices on previous visits and late season things like sun creams usually set up on a flat bed trolley.

Yes, typically it is things ending in .97

Great time to do this is December 20th onwards when all the Christmas gift packs (cakes/chocs/booze etc.) get heavily discounted. You can pick up some fantastic Christmas presents at outrageously low prices.

I can confirm, I've picked up some real bargins looking out for .97, Quicksilver tshirts £4.77 and other clothes they just want to get rid of out as they're out of season.
  • I just did a huge Costco shop yesterday and have to say it's fantastic value for money.

The meat is exceptionally good quality and good value - I think you recoup your membership within your first visit !
