Not all products at costco are cheap, however some are- if you buy in bulk.
    Things to buy at Costco:
    a. Tinned plum tomatoes ( 12 for £3.50 - Napolina brand) - usually £4.00 for 4 cans in supermarket
    b. Toilet rolls.
    c. Bin bags - they are lot good quality for the same price.
    d. Dulux paint - comes about £10 cheaper for 10 litres of white
    e. Paint brushes/rollers etc.
    f. Party size meals - like big pizza etc.
    g. beers

Meat is expensive and I haven't yet bought - but as other say, they are very good quality.

Other groceries - not worth buying as they are of the same or higher price than supermarkets - and since you have to buy in big packets as 5 Kg, they are usually rotten/green before you can use them.

Costco is a great place to shop. The main advantage is the American service and guarantee policy. When you have a return, they will exchange without giving you the 3rd degree as in UK shops. I have been a member since 1995 - I joined when I lived in New York State. In fact my card still has the old name (Price Club), which is what they used to be called in the States. We used to call it the $200 club because you couldn't leave the store without spending at least two hundred dollars! Now it's the £200 club!:rotfl:

Michelin tyres are the cheapest you'll find anywhere. Tyres changed, nitrogen filled, wheels rotated all-in price. The savings on just two tyres paid for our membership.
Great for party food; eg mixed wrap platters, large quiches, sushi, trays of baklava etc

I always buy herbs from Costco. Huge chef sized jars (called Schwartz Chef) of mixed herbs for about £2 - so much cheaper than buying small jars in the supermarket.
  • I WAS IN COCTCO YESTERDAY AND NOTICED THERE KIRKLAND WASHING POWDER WAS JUST UNDER 15 pound for 400 washes does anybody use it ands is it anygood thanks in advance
Kirkland washing powder is definitely fantastic value for money and the end product is no different from other washing powders. If you are okay with the stingy smell which I am now used to, I would strongly recommend it.

  • I visit Costco every 3-4 months and never spend less than £200, but I have worked it out that it does save you money at the end of the day. You just have to be disciplined in what you buy, I now only get stuff that I use on a regular basis. These are my following top tips:-

Electrical Appliances are normally cheaper, so worth checking them out. I have made savings buying kettles, vacuum cleaners etc.

Oral B electrical toothbrush heads work out cheaper, as do Brita Filters.

Toilet rolls, kitchen towels are a good buy

Tin tomatoes, bread flour (if you bake your own bread), juices, cereals are also good value.

Just go in with blinkers on and just get what you use and dont be tempted with all the other stuff.

I try to go to go to Costco with someone else and split purchases where possible. This saves having to store loads of non-food stuff, and enables me to buy fresh food that I wouldn't otherwise risk buying as we wouldn't be able to get through it all.

I love the fresh meat - much better quality than anything you buy in the supermarket. The local Costco in MK had just opened a new fresh fish counter which looks lovely, but I haven't tried it yet.

I have resigned myself to the fact that I always spend £200 (give or take £20) on every visit to Costco. Even if I think I will pop in for 1 or 2 things, I usually see something else (eg an appliance...), and spend £200 pretty much every time I go!
