Karena, I don't think they have any specials on at the moment. My last booklet expired a few weeks ago and I haven't had another one through. I was in Costco today and didn't see any 'special' booklets near the entrance where they are normally kept.0

No specials at moment.
Bought the 6oz Aberdeen Angus burgers yeaterday after hearing all the great reports on them from you lot. Partner has got the lads round this afternoon / tonight, so guess what they will be having.Josey0 -
if you know some one with a makro card ask them to get you an additional card , it takes two minutes to fill out the form and the card will come in your name as an employee .i have done this for loads of friends and they never have any problems.
i think it is a bit of a myth that you have to be vat registered, i was never vat registered but had a company cheque book ( 1 man band painter and decorator ) so was no problem getting card.obviously you have to pay the vat on anything you buy . i have been employed for last three years but still use my makro card whenever i need to.
it can be a hit or a miss on what to buy but they will send all card holders a fortnightly paper thing with the upcoming deals.0 -
We are looking for a charcoal BBQ and wondered if costco had any?
Tia x0 -

There is no booklet out atm my partner says it will be at the end of this month but i will post as soon as he brings one home and let you all know what the offers are. hth0 -
We're trade members of both and despite it being a 180 mile round trip still go once every couple of months but it all depends on what you want as to who gives the better value.
Costco - Good
Kirkland coffee large tins 1.36kg around £4.70, superb.
Meat, particularly Mince & Lamb steaks.
Potato Scones
Cases of Magners around £14 for 12 pint bottles.
Stamps cheaper than in the PO
Cakes
Cases of soft drinks
Toilet Rolls
Large tubs of Onken natural yoghurts.
Lovely christmas decs
Good selection of books.
Border individually packed biscuits.
They do have some lovely household items that come and go like lamps, so if you like one buy whilst it is there.
End up by having lunch, cant beat it, Chicken bake & a danish with free soft drink refills.
Costco - Not so good
Price of lamb shanks has shot up, same firm that produces them makes them for Aldi where whilst they are only in packs of 2 they work out cheaper.
The quality of there frozen breaded chicken kievs is now not as good.
The Beef Wellingtons they used to have went way up in price, the current ones are french, not as good. The old ones that were excellent, like the Lamb shanks, same company is producing them for Aldi. Identical in every respect and cheaper.
Makro Good
The fortnightly flyer.
Good selection of fish & meat.
Recently they did a whole welsh Lamb approx 34lb, butchered to your liking for £49.
Wider selection of Wines & Beers than Costco but for the stable brands cant compete with Tesco prices.
Toilet rolls.
Fairy Dishwasher Tablets.
Makros own grill cleaner and Deep Fryer cleaner are simply the best beating the likes of Mr Muscle and similar products that don't do that gooder job.
5kg bag of carrots £1.49, last for ages.
Away from food I recently bought a luggage weigher far cheaper than anything available elsewhere.
Also purchased the Whirlpool 10kg USA style tumble dryer £299 + VAT, which elsewhere ranges from £369 to £589. (At that time February 09 buy the matching 10kg whirlpool top loading W Machine and get both for £499+VAT) - Makro's buying power on electrical goods is amazing
Makro - not so good
Quality of frozen produce/desserts not as good as Costco.
Frozen veg in both Makro And Costco is cheaper in Iceland.
Quality of the food in the cafe could be improved and their electrical extended warranties are not as good as Costco.
Like everything know a rough idea of your prices before you go.

Just returned from my first trip to Costco in Gateshead. I loved it. £28.75 membership for 2 cards for 12 months but reckon I will make that back in savings within a month at latest The meat and deli sections are to die for as are the bakery items (any one who needs a birthday cake MUST check out the selection. Thanks to Forum members for alerting me to Costco's existence. Youv'e come up with the goods yet again0

Makro in Wolverhampton is closing at the end of the month and has some really good deals on at the moment. Everything is reduced, 25% of all most things and some things have 75% off.
Also from Tuesday apparently it's open to the general public so not cards are needed.0
