• At the moment, Makro are offering 30 cans of Coca~Cola for just £5!!!!:j
• As a photographer I use the Kirkland Photo Glossy paper, it's a good weight and I get excellent results on my Canon printer. They do 100 sheet A4 and 300 sheet 6x4, at really good prices. I also use the Kirkland batteries, and they do last as long as Duracell. We've had two family Christenings in the recent past, where we did our own catering for 100 at each one, and we more than saved our annual membership fees by them alone.

I am a member of both and visit makro more than costco. My place of work pay for staff to have membership at costco otherwise I probably wouldn't pay (tyres, razor blades and large electrical items are best money savers; their fresh food is delicious but portions are obviously large - cut up and freeze).
I joined makro with a letter head from work, a utility bill and a form of ID (I am a teacher so not the most likely candidate for membership but no questions were asked). I do prefer makro as they have a bigger range but you have to be quick to get the offers on the day they start (change fortnightly).

Just to save me a trip to look at the board above customer services, are civil servants listed as professions that can get an individual card?

or try email: memberservices@costco.co.uk
The very best is sometimes what nature gives us for free.

No, although other government workers such as NHS, fire, police, teachers do qualify.

Talurve - I am pretty sure that civil servants are OK. Give them a ring. Went along and rejoined yesterday, but be aware they require a utility bill - over the phone they told me Council tax wouldn't do, but 'phone would. I took our Sky bill ( they provide our phone) only to be told no we don't take Sky! As it happens I had taken my Council tax, too which they did actually take. That is the story of my life though, glad I did take my CTax bill!

In future there are going to be more and more problems with Utility bills as water and Sky are the only utilities I actually receive a bill for.

Not sure if it's also been mentioned, but as part of your membership you have a lifetime guarantee for non food products (apart from TV's etc).
I had a power washer that broke, about 3 years after purchase no box, no manuals and no receipt - Costco looked on the system and refunded the full amount.
Quality of food is very good; however check for local supermarket offers before buying at Costco as generally cheaper we've found 2for1 offers in the supermarket.

Where some foods are cheaper in larger quantities, look for the Use by Date especially for sauces and fresh ingredients and ensure that what you’re buying will be used within that time.

Also only go to Costco with a list and try and stick to it, it’s easy to put things in the trolley. As your buying bulk the average cost per item we found is around £9 to £10 with a full trolley and VAT it’s a pocket pincher.

We, too, are Costco fans. Our staples tend to be milk, big blocks of cheese, frozen burgers - £10 for 20 and excellent quality, mince, bananas, bread, naan breads, packs of wraps, mozzarella balls, and the packs of sliced ham (£10). The ham melts in your mouth. We cut the slices in half and freeze in manageable size quantities.

Next time we go - my DH is going to go on his own and I'll be at home on the computer comparing prices. I find it very hard to remember if something is a good deal on everything or not Heinz beans work out about 33p a 400g tin.
