My sister makes her own smoked paprika which is fabby. She uses scotch bonnet peppers, takes the seeds and ribs out and smokes them for 10 hours, then just leaves them to dry out completely somewhere warm and finally grinds them up in her coffee ginder. She uses an electric smoker using all different kinds of smoke wood chips,( she lives in the USA) but has told me you can use a disposable barbecue to the same effect. She also smokes jalapenos peppers but they are way too fierce for me."To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill" Sun Tzu0

That's strange because the tesco I bought it in is teeny tiny, and they had it. I guess it varies from branch to branch . I remember mine never served corn on the cob as apparently people in this area wouldn't really eat it?! I laughed at thatA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I love adding smoked paprika to my chilli (along with chilli, cumin and a bit of cinnamon)
It gives it a lovely depth rather than just using chilli peppers/powder on its own.

You could send it to me!
Seriously - I love it in tomato and butterbean soup (the title of the dish is pretty much the recipe - tin of tomatoes, tin of butterbeans, pint of stock, maybe a clove of garlic, add shedloads of smoked paprika and whizz with a handblender)
It's weird none of you have trouble finding it - the only time I've ever managed to buy it is in shops near where my Mum lives in the Midlands. Obviously the people of south Wales aren't into it as much!
Maybe I'll give it a go on the barbecue once the weather improves (it kind of sounds like fun anyway - and I bet it makes the garden smell good!)0 -
