Daft question: I bought a (small) tin of this before Xmas (I got carried away !) but so far haven't found a use for it. What dishes do you you use it in please ? (especially in such quantities)

Goodness, I'm so glad I asked the daft question. There are some delicious-sounding ideas here and I expect I shall soon be needing a new big tin myself. Thank you all so much !!
  • I get mine from the Indian asian supermarket, they have a huge range of herbs and spices. They come in bags, not sure of size. Much cheaper than the supermarkets
*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*
No new toiletries challenge - use up the stash first!

  • You can get this one in a tin in Sainsburys (£1.34):

Just spent £20 (oops, not very money-saving) on spices from Seasoned Pioneers

I've been after sumac, tamarind and za'atar for ages. I love Middle Eastern flavours;)

Za'atar is brilliant mixed with a little olive oil and rubbed into a chicken before roasting.

If you like Middle Eastern flavours, Dukkah is also great - mix with olive oil and use to coat chicken or vegetables (especially potatoes, butternut squash, pumpkin etc)

:T Fab, I'm going to do that with my next chicken.

I received my order from Seasoned Pioneers this morning. I'm very pleased with it and Dukkah is one of the things I ordered so thanks for that CC;) . I also got sumac, tamarind, star anise, harissa seasoning, berbere seasoning (Ethiopian), za'atar, quatre epices and an Iranian rice seasoning-forgot the name, sorry.
  • I love the flavour of smoked paprika, but I rarely seem to be able to find it in my usual shops, and in specialist shops it's usually a bit pricy - does anyone know if there's a way I could "smoke" my own paprika, or at least replicate the gorgeous distinctive smell and taste?

Our local Tesco has it, also Sainsbury's, in the specialist ingredients section.
