I was 18 for our 1st, 20 for the 2nd, 23 for the 3rd, 39 for #4 & will be 41 when this last one arrives! All to the same lovely DH & we've been married for 23 years now, just to show those who thought we were too young, etc., all those years ago! :) Don't regret the ages for any of them, there are pros & cons for having kids at any age - just have them (if you can), enjoy the good bits & grit your teeth over the bad bits :)

I was 28 and 30. A bit younger would have been fine, although there wasn't really much chance before I was say 26.

I think as well as the timing of meeting one's significant other as some people have mentioned, the age we have our children is also hugely affected by when you leave education. Although I have been with DH since we were 18 and 19, I was 23 when I left university. So for those who do go on to tertiary education, they are highly unlikely to have children in their teens/early 20's. Conversely if I'd been working when we met, we probably would have had them several years earlier.

I have loads of friends whose husbands are 40+ before they have children. And earning very high salaries, thus financially secure, partly as a result of this.
  • I was 28. My mother would say to me don't get married till your 26, and don't have a baby till your 28:confused: Anyhoo choose to ignore the marriage bit, though married to kids father now. Other 3 followed, 2 years apart from DS3, where there was a 3 year gap. oops! Mind you it kind of took the shine off my big 40 last year, because I kept thinking I'M 40 and he's 4.:rotfl:

Currently depends - 6 months pregnant at the moment. If she comes a week before her due date, I'll be 39 - otherwise my first at 40! :j (and yes, we did start trying many years earlier!)

I was 30 with my DD, 8 years fertility treatment though, so not holding my breath for a second.

My mum was 30 when she had me (her last).
