Something to really be upset about is the two young boys who maimed two other boys, the people getting raped or killed, the children suffering abuse... I know it feels like a big deal at the moment but it's ONLY money.
ASSUME that the worst happened (which I am sure it won't) then so what? You know that you didn't set out to purposely defraud anyone - yes you were probably a bit silly in how you dealt with problems but to a degree we all have been - we wouldn't be in debt and on here if we hadn't now would we? :)
Stop assuming that you will go to jail or get a conviction or anything like that - even if you did you could appeal it on many different grounds so take each step at a time :)

Looking at your story, you worked very very hard, living like a nomad, for years and you kept your mum at home as long as you could.

    That is a major success.

I know, I did the same, despite the fact that she was dreadful, spiteful and seriously mentaly ill. Just doing that means that I got into all sorts of messes with things, parking finces, car tax, Council tax you name it. Threatened with all sorts of legal action over those years. Took about three years after to begin to get myself together and my credit record is in tatters still.

What you acheived is little short of heroic, and you owe it to mum to be proud of yourself.

    Martin says

Of course many are in debt due to over-spending, financial illiteracy, or mismanagement of money (and some through no fault, only due to change of circumstance). Yet the fact they are here means they're looking for help, guidance and to take charge of their finances - and that in itself is admirable.

Please ring the Samaritians or your local GP practice.

No you didn't fail - she's in care now isn't she? I'd say that counts as safe. You tried to take responcibility that should never have been yours to take in the first place and that was HER failing, not yours.
You're both alive and you both have the oppertunerty to start again - but in order for either of you to do this you have to get the basics in order - number one on that list is speak to a health care professional like your GP or a doctor. You admit you possibily have an alcohol problem - and you sound pretty depressed to me... so please contact the emergency doctor or walk into A&E and ask them for help. Your health has to come before anything else right - unless you have your health then how can you hope to start addressing anything else? :)

One tiny step at a time...

    Hello Weeone.

I deal with debt every working day, its my job at the Citizens Advice Bureau. I see all types of debt with people in all sorts of situations.
Many of those who come to see me clearly cant cope with the situation they are in. They may be in floods of tears, scared to tell their family and have feelings of guilt or hopelessness.

I have never yet found anyone with debts who cant be helped. There is definately a light at the end of your tunnel but you need to look for it and accept help from those holding the torch.

    Those people / organisations are;

    Your family
    Debt charities
    samaritans
    your doctor

If in the first instance you go and see a doctor and reffered to councelling then they should be able to make a direct refferal to Citizens Advice.

Organisations like CAB's are not there to judge you, we are here to help. The times I have had said to me from someone who walks head down in to my interview room after an hour or so is " I feel so much better now" " I havent slept properly for months, but I will tonight !" Those comments are week in week out, and they leave heads up starting to sort things out with my continued assistance.

You need to get to this position. I, like others do not see much of an issue anyway.Maybe there is an issue with single person discount for 3 years - big deal ! Its sortable, nothing dreadful is going to happen.

You need to get some help so you can start living a better life. Its out there, all you have to do is grasp it - please start by talking to your family or your doctor or both and get to see the CAB or similar as soon as you can.

    Best,
