I have not heard back yet from council but know it may take time. I called a debt advisory line today. They told me because I cannot prove where i have lived and that because I used this (my mums previous) as a postal address that they will either charge me or my mum for fraud. i cannot prove where I've lived, and I have lied on this post because at times when mum was drinking or unstable I stayed with her. I cannot cope with having a crimminal conviction and have no way of paying the thousands I will owe.. Iam sorry but I cant go on living this way. I post this now because I ask others to not allow themselves to get in this mess sort it out now before it is too late as it is for me

    Hi

Which debt advisory line did you ring?

Stayig with mum sometimes may not have rendered you liable for the Council tax and even if you are, they are much more likely to ask for repayment than to sue you. A criminal conviction is for those who refuse to pay, not those who have not apid. We gets folks on here owing £6ooo in council tx with bailiffs after them on multiple accounts and they do not have a conviction.

I was told that because I cannot provide a previous address and because I have never registered with a council, that they will investigate. Some of the neighbours will be able to tell them I have stayed here for periods. I cannot face a conviction. More so the thought that the might try and convict my mum. I was told I have committed a criminal fraud, and as such will be likely to be procesucuted and have a criminal record

Whoa there cowboy :) take a deep breath and grab a cuppa tea or coffee...

First off - none of this silly talk about can't live with it. One way or another we'll find a solution to this!

Secondly - who is saying you committed fraud? The council? Their collector/henchmen? (The former is often wrong, the latter often nothing more than criminals who break the law regularly themselves...)

Thirdly - have you made that tea yet? :)

I'm going to have a proper read of your thread and try to work out the order of events but if you really feel it's bad then remember that you can always pick up the phone to the Samaritans - sometimes all you need is a friendly voice to speak to...

    Hang in there...

If at any time over the weekend you are upset andneed to talk to someone, you can ring Samaritans
http://www.samaritans.org/talk_to_someone.aspx or e-mail them if you find it easier.

You have had a very difficult couple of decades and I know from experience that it is when the pressure comes off that it really gets to you.

    Hold on tight.

I'm sorry folks but I have lied to you. I was to scared to admit it initially but I haven't been honest. For some of the time I stayed in the flat with my mum. Maybe 6 years if you add it all up.. 2 months here 6 there.. I tried to make her safe but didn't have money to pay for two places all the time. So sometimes I stayed. And I, I told her not to tell the council tax becuase money was so tight. So I know I committed fraud. I didn't live there all the time but I did at times. I never realised the seriousness before. The last 20yrs have been hellish, and I know it sounds dramatic but I cant take no more.Truely cant. Thank you all but I'm guilty as charged
