Just paid bills. can only prove to extent where I have lived over last 20yrs. Now concerned that if say it's my flat that mum will get int rouble being het second home. All a mess0

Mum registerd house as hers... owner
Who did she tell she was the owner? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I work in Council Tax.My name on the deeds but her home. Was always that way. My brothers and sis would visit her an treat it a her home. Me havin the mortgage was incidental.
I spent best part of 18yrs living that way. Staying in work accommodation, friends/ famlies sofas.. wherever. Just as long as she was ok. Mum thought of it as hers too. Hence she registered as the owner/occupier and paid the council tax.My sister applied and got (thank god) my mum into a sheltered accommodation near her. Bfeore she moved she had another breakdown. Two since then. She moved into the new place but I kept the flat cause she wanted to go back there. Didn’t settle. Would go back for silly reasons.
That’s the fraud part. The council assumed the flat was her second home. I still didn’t live there but kept it for her.
So if I get you right, your mother lived in the property you owned until 2006 at which point it was left empty until 2009 when you decided that you would move in ?
Who has been paying the Council Tax from 2006 to 2009 ? Has it been getting paid ?
Was the property unoccupied from 2006 and was it furnished or unfurnished ?
Could you please clarify further
(by the way, regardless of who was listed as the owner with council, providing the correct council tax was paid then there is no issue)I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
