Debate House Prices
In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non MoneySaving matters are no longer permitted. This includes wider debates about general house prices, the economy and politics. As a result, we have taken the decision to keep this board permanently closed, but it remains viewable for users who may find some useful information in it. Thank you for your understanding.

And what about my comment that EVERY thread on this board descends into argument, bullying, vitriol and (if your contributing) racism.
Actually most threads never descend into petty name-calling or hatred.
Many do however have strong , occasionally heated debates. Most of the time people stay the right side of the line.
I have noticed it is easier to keep threads civil and on track if you don't throw personal and libellous accusations around (such as calling people 'racist). :rolleyes:0 -
Interesting that you highlighted the bit I wanted to comment about. You must have selected memory because it seems that every second week your threatening to leave because of all the arguments and bullying, yet here you are trying to defend the place.
Speak the truth, its the only way to get the morons out of MSE and make the place a better forum. Name and shame them, stop tip-toeing around the landmines, trying to make everyone your friend.
Not every second week, but certainly I have been disillusioned recently, by the bad stuff, as I have commented here and in the thread in site feedback. I'm defending what I consider valuable, not the undenyable rubbish, much of which you have raised in this thread.
Although you are insulting me with the selective memory comment, I do have a neaurological condition which has lead to a small degree of brain damage and I do forget a lot as a resultIts therefore impossible for me to disagree with your insult
Its also why lots of my posts are full of missspellings and are sometimes unclear.
I don't think I do tiptoe, I've certainly said some unpopular things. I just think its possible to disagree without insulting people.0 -

For the time being I've changed the name of the board slightly, to give more indication of what people will find.
However the team and I are going to monitor the board. If people continue to be abusive to each other then we're going to have to start PPRing more liberally - not somethign I like doing.
So please can those who get agressive, just calm down the tone, debate is fine but scathing anger simply doesn't fit what these forums are for.
A good sentiment but unfortunately that is the nature of internet fora, especially when contentious subjects are debated -- and especially re politics and religion. I have been physically threatened (!) on football sites and received obscene personal messages and had my real identity hacked posted up on a holiday site ! This was not for being abusive etc but for expressing views which were not to the liking of certain others, and for declining to back down when bullied. Most people are okay on most fora, but the internet attracts all sorts of nutters, malcontents, and loony tunes like moths to a candle. On an unmoderated site especially it is a problem, but not one with an easy solution.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

Personally, I do not think that "you'd be mad if you bought now" is neither insulting, bullying or bad advice in response to someone asking if they should be buying right now (or in 2007 for that matter). And yes, I am guilty of making that exact response on more than one occasion and don't consider it insulting nor bullying, just sound to-the-point advice.
As you appear not to agree with such to-the-point responses, in your opinion, how should one respond to such questions then?

Do you take time to enquire about the individuals circumstances? No, you and others think a blanket "Do Not Buy" is applicable to all.0 -
too many fluffy huggie types over the other place..real phonies who send out false hopes:rolleyes:It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -

You are right to a small degree but when house prices are dropping at £800 per week (or whatever ridiculous figure it is) then I think that far outweighs any other circumstances in the list of priorities, unless of course you have money to burn.
