Debate House Prices
In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non MoneySaving matters are no longer permitted. This includes wider debates about general house prices, the economy and politics. As a result, we have taken the decision to keep this board permanently closed, but it remains viewable for users who may find some useful information in it. Thank you for your understanding.

Unfortunately this board has turned into another housepricecrash.co.uk - This this really what we want?
No, but the simple fact of the matter is that there are no 'good news' stories to discuss therefore your argument that it's all doom 'n' gloom here is, well, a non-argument. If you can find some 'good news' stories of relevance to the forum then feel free to post them and we will discuss them. You seem to be using your frustrations over the lack of the former as leverage that this forum is pointless and should be binned which is rather selfish.

However the team and I are going to monitor the board. If people continue to be abusive to each other then we're going to have to start PPRing more liberally - not somethign I like doing.
So please can those who get agressive, just calm down the tone, debate is fine but scathing anger simply doesn't fit what these forums are for.0 -

i suggest that you do some IP mapping to find multiole user logins - you have Fatpig, a44Downey, Napoleon, Payday, Pizza Girl, Banderman and many others that add zero value.
otherwise you have the same issues0 -

About time. Aside from all of the arguments and the bullying, there is an undercurrent of racism that permiates this board that needs to be attended to.
The trouble is that the worst offenders wil simple 'lie low' for a while and then come back. The best solution would be to move this board to Discussion Time where it belongs and then come down heavily on any posters who try and disrupt the other housing threads. This would focus your efforts better and ensure the HPC discussion stays in the discussion area (DT) and people who want to buy houses are left to ask their questions, unmolested in the main housing boards.
People come to the MSE Housing & Renting boards to ask specific questions like "I have put in an offer on a house, what next" and are met with a wall of abuse like "Why have you bought a depreciating asset, you idiot" and "See you in the DFW in a year then when you get repo'd you clown". You can only prevent this happening by focussing your attention on the proper housing boards rather than trying to police this one.
Frankly, if this board is moved to DT then it'll all calm down eventually as the more extreme HPC element go back to the HPC website from whenst they came.0 -
This thread is an indication of what the whole board is like Martin. As I said in the original Changes to the Boards thread, any newbies who come to MSE for advice about house buying or are afraid of losign their jobs in the recession must be appalled when they stumble into the Housing/economy and see all this going on. Many of them must turn tail and leave, taking with them a very poor opinion of MSE.
Anyone with financial problems, debts, facing reposession are roundly turned on, anyone who is considering buying a house is roundly turned on, anyone who has a BTL is roundly turned on. It gets really vicious and really drags down the rest of MSE.
You just need to make sure that the board guides are vigilent with the other housing related boards to make sure this lot dont wreck those too. I think if you combined all the housing related boards (mortgage, house buying & renting, mortgage free wannabee) into a single Housing area, then this would help dilute the more extreme posters on here due to the larger numbers of 'sane' people who regularly post on those boards.
Basically, this board is poison and the sooner you move it to an MSE backwater the better it will be for the other boards.
as long as this site's rules are not being broken then free debate should be allowed. Why artificially turn it into something that is not representative of the current climate?
The general population as a whole feel house prices will tumble - they also feel BTLers are part of the whole econmoc mess. That this sub-board represents that is probably proportional.
Are you wishing to censor this sub-forum?? Oh yes I see that you are.0 -

Quite a few good news threads running today actually Rob, one of which I started my myself.
The only thing which I find selfish is when a newbie, seeking some genuine advice is insulted and bullied for either buying in 2007, buying a BTL or considering buying shortly.0 -

I came to this board not so long ago following a pm off another poster suggesting I would find it interesting, and although I don't post here much, I do pop in quite often. I too think it would be beneficial to open it up to a wider audience.
It's definitely an interesting board, that's for sure
I agree ,i thought changing it from house prices to more of a debate on the recession was a great idea and would fit perfectly alongside DT and encourage the more knowledgeable posters to post there as well.0 -
The problem is unfortunately the knowledgeable contributors are often lost amongst the unpleasant element. Those of who read but don't comment are those that take on bored the advice and information we read but don't want to get embroiled in a petty argument. Sadly this thread is descending into now.
Well, surely the answer is to deal with the unpleasant element?
Its horrid when its nasty, I agree, but when its agood here it really is very good.
I think the good deserves some recognition other wise it could be a self fulfilling prophecy. I, personally, would have appreciated that from Martin as he, rightly IMO, deals with the rest.0
