Debate House Prices

In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non MoneySaving matters are no longer permitted. This includes wider debates about general house prices, the economy and politics. As a result, we have taken the decision to keep this board permanently closed, but it remains viewable for users who may find some useful information in it. Thank you for your understanding.

as long as this site's rules are not being broken then free debate should be allowed. Why artificially turn it into something that is not representative of the current climate?

The general population as a whole feel house prices will tumble - they also feel BTLers are part of the whole econmoc mess. That this sub-board represents that is probably proportional.

Are you wishing to censor this sub-forum?? Oh yes I see that you are.

If your PPRing usernames then I would make this one your first stop. Dervish is chief racist on this board and takes every opportunity to voice a negative comment about immigrants.

    Yes, important topics like:

"Just Luvving it" - An uplifting tale of someone enjoying the recession and wanting to rub people's noses in it. People who may be hurting due to the recession and have come to MSE for help & Advice.

"BTL Muppet trying to sell his lemon for 13k" - A thinly disguised dig at the BTL landlords.

"My BTL empire is in tatters" - A thread created for argumentative purposes.

"I sold my house - DD is Queer" - Need I say more? (deleted by BG's)

"Sock Puppets and reconcilliation" - Threda about sockpuppets

"How much has this crash saved you" - Another dig at people who are losing homes and wealth during the recession.

I could go on. I could also go into all of the more "Worthy" threads and note all of the arguing and vitriol. No matter what thread you create, it will descend into chaos within a couple of pages.

What is the point of this board?

    Ohhhhhhhh I see...........

Every other sub-forum on this site has absolutely NEVER had any irrelevant or irreverant posts on it??

Oh, in that case we are in the wrong and something must be done...

I think those are valid and fair actions. Is PPR ban? I think some bannings would help. :(

I'm sad you have responded in posts in this thread only to the negative side of the group here...commenting only on the undeniably unpleasant element. I'd really have apprecited feedback for the rest of us, because we are not all unpleasant. I feel eveytime this whole nasty side is raised the 'nice' people are lumped in with the whole and the valuable stuff discussed dismissed as readily as the -well, the other stuff. :(

I really hope misskool posts more, and the people who have commented here and on my b'day thread who say they read but don't post.

For those who say we are only nasty, there are some really supportive people here, I have been the beneficiary of that, and I feel not to acknowledge that would be rude to the 'valuable' contributers to this board.

Interesting that you highlighted the bit I wanted to comment about. You must have selected memory because it seems that every second week your threatening to leave because of all the arguments and bullying, yet here you are trying to defend the place.

Speak the truth, its the only way to get the morons out of MSE and make the place a better forum. Name and shame them, stop tip-toeing around the landmines, trying to make everyone your friend.

And what about my comment that EVERY thread on this board descends into argument, bullying, vitriol and (if your contributing) racism.

    Dopester is another one.

You have that very wrong about me.

I am entirely supportive of open free-trade and the principles thereof which are fully compatible with ideals of multiculturalism.

Everyone knows that. In fact when there has been slight xenophobia I've picked up from one poster to a distasteful degree, I've challenged it.

You are very wrong and it is a slur.

I think gmail has a lot to answer for.

Yes it gets heated, there are a mixture of views on the economy, houses, etc. and absolutely no one on here can claim to have 100% facts. Room for debate, room for arguments.

Does it serve any purpose? As carolt pointed out - buying or not buying a house is the biggest single decision some one can make. Does a load of people arguing help anybody? Not many, most have made their own minds up.

But I would say there's a lot of useful stuff discussed in here, a link to the days top events and a discussion around them. It's possible to learn stuff, especially if you're not really that interested in economics but welcome some extra info on a need to know basis.

As we sit in 2009 with major banks collapsing, car companies shut, and house prices c. 20% down maybe it's of some small 'benefit' that there were at least a few brave souls on the HP board discussing it before the press or the government had the first idea.

Does it matter? Probably not. Do as you see fit, it's your site.

Quite a few good news threads running today actually Rob, one of which I started my myself.

The only thing which I find selfish is when a newbie, seeking some genuine advice is insulted and bullied for either buying in 2007, buying a BTL or considering buying shortly.

Personally, I do not think that "you'd be mad if you bought now" is neither insulting, bullying or bad advice in response to someone asking if they should be buying right now (or in 2007 for that matter). And yes, I am guilty of making that exact response on more than one occasion and don't consider it insulting nor bullying, just sound to-the-point advice.

As you appear not to agree with such to-the-point responses, in your opinion, how should one respond to such questions then?

Well, surely the answer is to deal with the unpleasant element? :)

Its horrid when its nasty, I agree, but when its agood here it really is very good. :)

I think the good deserves some recognition other wise it could be a self fulfilling prophecy. I, personally, would have appreciated that from Martin as he, rightly IMO, deals with the rest.

I thank and move on. :)

Some new people come to this board for advice as the title suggest, unfortunately some people are not offering advice but are potentially scaring the hell out of them.
During my divorce had this site been available I certainly would have been looking for advice on properties both domestic and commercial. I don't think I would have gained very much from some posters and once a thread dissolves there is no going back.

You are very wrong and it is a slur. You post nothing here of value, except you are happy now in trying to disrupt infront of Martin.

Sorry Dopester, I made a mistake with the username. Please accept my sincere apologies for such a slur. :o

I'll remove that bit. I'm really sorry.
