    Haii guys.

So, basically, I feel really ill. I have a hot head, sore throat and a bit of a cough and me being the over-reactive person I am, am convinced I have swine flu and am going to die. :rotfl:

Now, I spent years wanting to die, but you know, I don't actually want to anymore. So, yesh, if I don't feel better tomorrow I shall be like "Sas, could you please phone ze doctor for meeeeee. Pretty please?" :rotfl:

hope you feel better soon anni, ((((hugs)))

    Hi Friends

How are you all? May I share a few things which I hope will bring a smile to you? .....
CB2 reporting back from Chessington WOA - yes, more recklessness, more extreme rides (and at my age)....screaming is good..!

They say most accidents happen in the home and I've recently proved it. For the first time I slipped in the bath, crashing my ribs from my full height onto the bath side. Result - agony for over a fortnight - even breathing was painful. *please get a non-slip bath mat everyone, if you haven't already*

My moment of fame arrived the other night when I was presented with a huge Royal Doulton crystal plate at the spectacular Avingdon Park near Winchester. Speeches, applause, and cameras snapping for the media - it was because I've given over 75 pints of blood (and still going!). In the 80's my work nickname was "Lady Vampire" - as a Medical Researcher I used to take regular blood samples from my colleagues who'd bravely agreed to be guinea pigs to test new medicines under development. Reckoned if they could give blood, then hey, so could I! It was wonderful to hear the testimony of a leukaemia suffer whose life had been saved by blood donors.
Only 6% of those eligible to give blood in the UK currently do so. * May I encourage you to consider it, if you are able? * It is so easy to be a life saver..

    Tiff,
I'm sorry to hear about your recent op (whatever it was) and hope it wasnt too radical. Know what....I still feel guilty about having my cat neutered! 'Tis not nice is it to have your bits operated on...

And thank you so much for your post to me no 812 dated 15/6/09, you are very kind. :A See, I have not forgotten! And I hope you have not forgotten CB2's offer to you and DS - you deserve it :T

    Sazzi,
Well done you on your steps toward exiting the Rat Race, as you put it. Some say, even if you leave the RR, that you are still a rat. But hey, I know there's more to life than this....
Near the top of my list of "Things I wish I knew 30 years ago" is this:-
    -how wonderful self-employment is
    - that you 'pay' for the privilege of an important job title
Yes, I recall the days of having to stop the car on the way to/from work to be sick (stress), and coming home and staring at a blank wall for hours (more stress)
No more....no office politics, nor timekeeping, as much holiday as you want and much better off money-wise as well.
Good luck sazzi...you can do it! *and that goes for anyone reading this who is feeling trapped at the moment*

    Shaz,
How devastating it must have been to read the psychiatrist's grim conclusions about your DS's future. <hug> May I share an experience I had 25 years ago which I hope will give you hope?.....

As a rookie Prison Governor, I was at the Prison Training College in Wakefield when the Director interrupted our lecture to inform us that there was an all out Prison Officer strike in London...that all the staff had walked out, and that the No1 Governor was holding the gate. We had 20 minutes...we were told to pack our bags, drive to London and run the jails until further notice. Drawing the short straw, I was allocated to take command of the notorious C1 wing in HMP Holloway - where mentally ill, disturbed and violent female prisoners were housed. here were people whom psychiatrists had diagnosed and written off as behaviourally unmanageable/not in control of actions etc.
Now, the rules of C1 wing were that there had to be at least 2 officers present to unlock 1 C1 prisoner, and only 1 at a time.
Having no choice, I said to them "Look guys, I need your help to run this wing" - and unlocked the whole lot and set them to it.

Know what, Shaz? These women behaved perfectly. They responded to trust and being put in a position of responsibility. And not only did they obey orders, but many demonstrated the ability to take the initiative and organise the wing regime for the benefit of others.

I have never forgotten this; over the years I've read many psychiatric reports which seemed to bear little resemblance to the prisoner sitting in front of me.
I am hopeful that likewise, Shaz, your boys will be enabled to behave well. Too often, I suspect, psychiatric labels become self-fulfilling prophecies. Labels aside, what do you think your son's anger is all about?

    Take care CB2X

And here is why this thread absolutely deserves its place on MSE, a money saving site:

    The midweek blues....

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31780455/from/ET/

Published research from Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology.

About 25% of all suicides take place on a Wednesday.

This is (to me) a remarkable statistic.....what thoughts do people have?
