I kept finding that I was frequently finding it difficult to sleep and my mind was racing, so I started to only drink caffeine before lunchtime (coffee or tea). After lunch I only have decaff tea or coffee (Tetley do a decaff tea that tastes just the same to me). It really made a difference and now Im out like a light most nights.

This is what I'm hoping for.

I have the mind racing thing - thinking about everything, so I don't fall off to sleep, then when I do, I'm up to go to the bathroom.

This is the third night now, and I haven't noticed a difference in sleep pattern, so far. How long before you found your sleeping had improved, if you don't mind me asking?

I agree the current living situaion is causing a lot of the negativity you feel :(

I do worry about this relationship you have with your friend. Do you feel as though you are starting to 'need' him? Basing your happiness on when you are with your friend is also something you need to address, hunny. He is married and there could be a lot of hurt feelings, if you continue this friendship.

He is also hiding your visits from his wife, who is also suffering with depression. What if, unbeknown to you, his wife is actually a member of this forum. Someone you talk to, someone who shares their depression? How would that person feel, knowing her husband is carrying on a secret friendship?

What would you say if someone said their husband was having a secret friendship with a younger girl, and she was deeply unhappy with this, causing her depression to increase?

Have a look and see if there are any self confidence courses near where you are. I feel you need to work on your confidence and self-respect. Perhaps that is also something you could mention to your GP.

I know my words aren't lovey-dovey, but they are meant sincerely, pet. You could end up being very hurt through this friendship :(

We talked on Wednesday and he pretty much said she knows. What they said to each other, I don't know. She knows we talk and has done for at least 5 years now.

I don't think he's ever intentionally hidden my visits from her. When I saw him a few weeks ago, he explained that his wife had been taken to hospital the previous evening.

You are right (unfortunately) that I am feeling as though I "need" him. I was in the same situation with him 3 years ago. He kept refusing on & off to talk to me because he just couldn't deal with me. I am now scared that's going to happen again.:(

That's really interesting Beth, I get that racing mind thing too... my last cup of tea is usually late afternoon at work, but maybe I should try a lunchtime cut-off too... hmm...

Pipkin - it might be worth checking if it was a caffeine-related suggestion, because there are some nice caffeine-free alternatives. As Beth says, you can get an ok caffeine-free version of black tea too.

The same day I stopped drinking caffeine after lunch. It was that quick. You also have to be wary of soft drinks that contain caffeine - coca cola (and other soft drinks I think)have caffeine so I avoid these too. If I drink coke in the evening I have the Coca Cola caffeine free one (in the gold tin).

However, I only drank 3-4 cups of coffee/tea a day to start with. Perhaps if you are used to more than this it takes longer for you to be used to not drinking it?

I know people who have an ordinary cup of tea or full strength cup of coffee at bedtime and don't have a problem sleeping but I know I couldn't do that.

I had a bottle of Coke with my tea and felt pretty carp for a while afterwards. Shouldn't have it really as it's caffeine and sugar whammy but it is one of my little addictions.
Shaz make sure you drink some water tonight.

Well Pipkin was talking to you on the page before this one!
Sandy the reasons publicly given for the closure of that thread were:

1 - Resources being drained by all the abuse reports about posts on the thread.

    2 - Threats of suicide/self harm.

Actually in a now deleted thead one of the BG's basically said the it was down to me that the black dog thread was closed.

I am now treated by a lepper on that board, Guess I won't be welcome here anymore either :(

    Aww, hunny.

    Don't think like that :(

I would talk to you, whichever board you're on :)

Things happen and we move on. I understand why the thread was closed - it was a difficult thing for the forum team because people on the board were not trained in how to deal with someone in a crisis, and a wrong word could see someone already close to the edge, topple over :(

    How are you this morning?

    I have a rotten sore throat :(
