My absolute fav sandwich filling is brie and walnuts, used to buy sandwiches from a local sandwich bar when I was working in London until I worked out how much cheaper it would be to make my own:D.

    ^ Vegetarians don't eat tuna..

Apparently this poster does. But then again, it may not be the poster who is veggie, and whoever it is may well eat fish.

I know, but they were asking for vegetarian ideas and if they eat fish they are not vegetarian.

Kirri - this sounds delicious. How do you make it?

"I make a split pea dip, made like houmous but quicker/cheaper as can make from dried split peas, cooked with cumin seeds, garlic, olive oil etc. Good with salad in pitta. Better still topped with dukkah."

Agree vegetarians do not eat fish - the OP also mentioned ham and chicken in that sentence, and no one is suggesting those as possible veggie options :D. Who cares why the op now wants veggies sarnies, veggie is veggie, and that means no fish not just no meat or poultry.

I use about 100g of dried yellow split peas, bring to boil then simmer for about 45 mins ish till soft. Drain and put them in a food processor with a garlic clove, 1 tsp ish cumin seeds, 1tbsp ish olive oil, salt and pepper to taste and blitz. It's lovely :D

That makes enough for 2 small amounts or 1 hungry person but can easily just double up on the split peas and add the rest to taste.

Original recipe added in lemon juice and topped with dill.

This is what we do, minus the cumin and garlic, but call it pease pudding. I use rapeseed oil because it is milder and then can add flavourings as we please; curry paste is good. I think I will try you suggestion next time I make it for a "pease hummus" :)

Thanks for all of those ideas, i will definitely try some of them out.

Just to clarify, i am not a vegetarian, but i am interested in varying my diet and would like to try more vegetarian alternatives. I would like to go back to only having 1-2 meat based meals a week.
