going to have to change from a weekly budget to a monthy 1, as I have overspent this week, plus plan next payday 21st April to do an online shop for month and pop into aldi and get milk, veg and fruit.

Did pop into aldi today for milk and fruit and took £10 cash, spent £9.78! Only thing I got which was not on my list was a big bar of choc, going to make choc cornflake buns with by boys!
  • Hi all,

This is my first post, i have often read other people's input and have longed to join in. I am a bit of a techno phobe and pretty rubbish at anything technical. So here goes, my challenge for the month is a grocery budget of £200.00 to feed a family of 4, 1 x dog and any extra bods that may happen to decend on us!!!!!!!!!

Took my first day off of the year today. DS off school and we struggled for care. I've been to:

The park £5 spent on hot dogs
    B&Q £13.94 and another £5.20 on muffins & coffee
    ToysRus £4 on bubbles
    M&S £6.73 on nonsense
Sainsbury £10.27 on yet more nonsense

My Goodness! Because I wouldn't spend £3.40 on Parmesan in M&S I ended up spending another tenner in Sainsbury to buy cheaper cheese :o

So, I shall add my £17 spend to the GC as I used my card. I've now only got a tenner left of my Grand National winnings:eek:

Moneysaving Diva, well done with your Goji Berry plants. You could make a bomb selling a SUPER FRUIT!! All those anti oxidants could make you rich :D

    Hi everyone!
Been MIA, but trying to get back on track! I'm doing Weight Watchers as well as trying to stay as OS as possible, it's hard staying cheap when I don't have a garden or allotment, but please put me down for £140 for this month.

Wendywitch I don't know if its any help to you but I make hoummus by chucking a tin of drained chick peas into the food processor with a couple of bulbs of garlic (or dried garlic if I've ran out ;)), black pepper, a good squirt of lemon juice & set it whizzing. Once it's mushed up I slowly pour in olive oil until it's the right consistency and voila homemade hoummus :T It makes at least a cereal bowlful so there's be plenty to go round :D The pure recipe also has tahini paste in it which is sesame seeds ground up in oil but I don't add it as it's expensive & I honestly can't tell the difference.

    Hi everyone,

I too have been MIA. SIL got married on Sunday and had lots to do last week in the run up to the big day. Thankfully the sun shone, and my three children behaved impeccably, so big sighs all round.....

Have spent a fair bit of my april budget now, but have meal planned up until Easter Monday and have arranged MrT to come on Tuesday next week for the last few bits (my month runs until 20th). Have accumlated several Whoopsied roasting joints, so it will be roast three times this weekend (different meats thankfully!).

Went out with my DSIS and DM today and took a very healthy packed lunch of wholemeal rolls, juice, cruditees and houmous (we love it too!). DM would insist on offering the children hm biscuits and cakes tho just as they were tucking in to their rolls - why do grandparents do that

I so wish we had home bargains near us - we are in Kent - it sounds great.

Over half of the month gone & only 2 weeks (of 5) left to go. Did a small top up of fresh bits & bobs ready to do some batch cooking at the weekend before DD comes home on Monday.

As well as more than enough meat & fish for the planned batch cooking, there is a whole chicken, a silverside joint, left over roast topside & left over gammon joint. So there really is loads in & if it was just me I would be more than happy that I would make it, even though there is not much left in the budget. But DD & her hollow legs will be home & on holiday for the last week.

    More holiday spends to report:

    Mince @ £2.99
    Onion @ 20p
Ben & Jerrys @ £1.95 (If you like this stuff, get thee to the Co-op! It's half price!)
    Milk @ £1.53
    Bacon @ £4
    Bread @ £1.29

I had to send t'other half back to the shop for cheese, and only needed a little bit for dinner - he came back with two massive wedges of cheese as it was on a BOGOF! So, another £3 for cheese.

Total spent today £14.96 which is more than I was planning on spending but hey we're on holiday! Dinner at my folks again tomorrow so hopefully no more spending from the grocery budget until we go back to Edinburgh on Friday :D My dad was talking about making venison for dinner too....om nom nom!
