Yup. That's really common.
And I know someone who took the paving slabs up too.0 -

It does happen, takng light bulbs happens a lot.
Forgot to add any major garder plants, I have known people dig up stuff and take them.
Most times a verbal is fine but these vendors have shown their cards don't risk anything.
We took our light fittings when we sold our last house, and the curtains and curtain poles. Reason being they were inordinately expensive and we wanted to use them in our new house. We made it very clear from the outset that we wouldn't be leaving them. We did leave the carpets though.
The sellers of our current house left all the carpets, curtains and light fittings, though to be honest I would have rathered they took them as we replaced them all almost immediately. These things are so much down to personal taste and I would never expect people to leave them.0 -

Bad planning. I took 'copies' of all my treasured plants, including seeds from the trees, which are now growing.
If you fall out big-time with your buyer, leave some Scotch Thistle seeds behind in the garden. They will continue to remind him/her about you for up to 20 years. How do I know? I accidentally bequeathed this plant to my BIL when he bought the house I'd been renting!:rotfl:0 -

OMG - now I'm really worrying about what state they are going to leave the property in - they're only up for the weekend so I'm hoping they don't do anything rash, especially as we haven't exchanged contracts yet.
We'll view it again when they've gone, if they've wrecked the place, the price will go have to go down. They'll struggle selling it again for the same price we're paying and to someone without a chain!0 -

Oh I am sure they are just trying it on. I would reccomend you view before completion though just to be sure.
Good luck

We exchanged contracts yesterday on a property - the vendors are taking the living room and dining room carpets even though they are hitching up and travelling the world in a camper van - best carpeted camper van in the world!!
Honestly though, they have done me a huge favour since the poop coloured carpets are not my taste and this will kick me into fitting a new floor straight away instead of putting the job off.0 -
Wierd! Did they offer them to you first?Pawpurrs x0

Fitting a carpet when you have stuff in the house is a nightmare.... multiple visits shifting all furniture from room to room, dismantling beds.... big favour0 -
When I bought my house 6 years ago, the vendors took everything they could. We really wanted the house so ended up paying about £2k they asked for carpets - which I must admit I regretted as actually they were not of the quality I wanted and therefore replaced them straight away in the main rooms.
They also took bathroom fittings - loo roll holder, towel rail etc., & curtain rails. This was annoying but I suppose when I went out to replace & find out how much they cost, I appreciated why.
However I realised how petty they really were when on the list of things they were taking was a dimmer switch and some rocks from the garden (the neighbours later told me the rocks had come free from the builders).
I suppose more fool me who left blinds, curtains, bathroom fittings and in fact anything else I knew I didn't want in the new house.0 -
25 years ago carpets it was normal to pay extra for carpets and curtains. I did when I bought a house in 80s. I took carpets and curtains with me when I moves a year later as my buyer wouldn’t pay the very reasonable price I asked for them. The carpets and curtain were good quality and I used them in my new house for quite some time. I’d leave them now but things were different in the past. If you think I was bad the person I bought off not only took the curtains and carpets but one of the kitchen cupboards. this was before the time of filling forms on what you would take.0
