I would expect fitted carpets to be included but not curtains unless agreed.

I would say to them that my offer was on the basis of fitted carpets included, if they want to take them then fine but you'll reduce your offer by £1,000.

To avoid a !!!!ing match I'd probably have my lawyer do this through their lawyer. Also make sure you get and check a full listing of what is included. Anything like fridges, washing machines (if included) you might find the nice new one that works has been replaced from one from the local dump!

  • You have not exchanged contracts.
You do not have to exchange contracts.
They have stated a price at which they would sell you the carpets and curtains.
You can make them an offer at which you would be happy to buy their carpets.

Tell them to take the carpets.
Tell them you want the floors making good of any damage caused by them ripping them up.

They'll take one up and realise what hard work it is, or find out how much it is to get a skip to throw them in. It's very sad. I thought most people leave carpets.

I would not pay them. I would rather have new if I had to buy any at all.

We bought a house once and they took all the light bulbs AND it was in the days when shops closed half day on Thursdays!

i know that it says in my solicitors stuff that no rubbish or stuff is to be left behind and the place is to be left in good order, what sort of order is somewhere going to be left in, if all the gripper rods are round the rooms and/or theres a great big skip outside with carpets dumped in it

The two houses I've bought were both fixer uppers, so had a combination of bare boards or 30+ year old tatty carpets.

When I left my first house I took one fitted carpet with me, which I'd only had for a couple of years. It was bl**dy expensive and I didn't want to waste the money. It's still looking good below my feet now in my current house. It's not leaving with me this time though.

My current buyers asked me to leave the curtains, and we compromised on me leaving the ones I'd bought, but I'm taking the ones I hand made. It wouldn't occur to me to charge for leaving carpets or curtains, I either want to keep them for sentimental or other value, or I don't.

I would never pay for furnishings in a new house, would rather have bare boards.

Carpets aren't part of the house and it is common for people to take them up/with them for many reasons.

I've even seen somebody complain on here that the sellers left the carpets, leaving the buyers the effort of removing them.

Whether the carpets etc are staying/going is one of the questions on the form a seller fills out.

I think most people would prefer their own carpet choices, even if they had to wait 2-3 years to get any.

Tell them you're prepared to pay for the carpets but according to the LR house price falls are accelerating, and they have to be prepared to take a £10K haircut on the house.:A

For the record - I once had a vendor lift the wood laminate flooring! The vendor and purchaser were not on good terms all through the sale and the vendor wanted the last word!

Laminate flooring is almost understandable because of it's lego type nature.
