Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 27 March 2009. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem
Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!
Morning. 5.30am and I can't sleep any more. I think it was the large Chinese meal I ate at 10pm that did not help. I worked late so got a meal on the way home, but perhaps I should have stuck with a lighter option. Day off today, but fingers crossed I may get called in... I was pre-warned last night, but only if someone authorised overtime. Which these days may be a no. wait and see I guess.
I have a busy day anyway. I need a haircut this morning and am going to get a Rock and Roll cut for a party we are going to tonight. My daughter is having her party at a local U16's disco, all dressed like Cops and Robbers. Or more like Tarts and Tarts. There are already problems with 'falling outs' I expect it will all go OK, and we can give a sigh of relief that it is done.
I guess I saved money last night by working OT instead of going down the pub for a mates leaving do. I know what I would rather have done though!
Have a nice day, cheers folks

Have been getting up very early this week as I seem to be coming out in sympathy with DH who has been leaving early to work further away this weekIt's not deliberate I can assure you lol
Last time I will be working on a Friday as am taking on extra hours during the week but we will be closed on a Friday. Thats a few more quid to go into the coffers anyway :j
Home at lunchtime, then lunch, polishing and hoovering downstairs and a swish and swipe of the kitchen. Not sure whats for dinner, might try some gammon steaks I got in Aldis at the beginning of the week.
Awful memory so please forgive me for forgetting but ((hugs))) to those in need.
Well done to PP's daughter - how proud must you be!!

Morning N9eav and all who cross/follow
it`s very cold this morning so i hope that my seedlings are ok.
I`m sat sitting here at w*rk with toothache yet again  i think that i shall ring the dentist yet again today and see if i can get an appointment and have the horrible thing pulled out, what an awful waste of money though. It was expensive to have all the work done a couple of weeks ago and it was giving me no trouble at all. I really wish that i`d just left it alone in the first place broken tooth or not.
I tried a new recipe (to me anyway) last night for dinner and was amazed at how lovely it was, i made the thai chicken recipe from the index on the GC board but i used some cod that i found in the freezer instead and it was lovely, i found a recipe for lemon rice and we had a wonderful tasty meal. This is definitely one that i shall repeat.
Later today i need to clear the ironing pile and do next weeks meal planner, oh and the shopping list too. Looks like a busy day
I shall love you and leave you all for the time being so remember to have a good day peeps.
Catch you all later.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Morning folks
sorry about the tooth Sunnyday - I had that when I was young - dentist did root canal trteatment to save the tooth yet I still got abscesses (spelling error somewhere there?) and eventually went to another dentists and got the blimmin thing out. But...times have changed and they may be able to do more to save your tooth.
Sunny here. Hope it lasts.
Doggie still bad with her leg although it seemed to ease a bit yesterday evening. However, she came through for her morning biscuits and also went outside, although she didn't 'do' anything, just stood and looked at me. She starts her new tablets today and they're the ones which really worked last time so I'm hopeful.
The minestrone soup last night was good - I chucked in half a teasp chill powder at the start when I sauteed veg and it made it nice and spicy. More left for tonight. After that we'll have breaded fish fillets from the freezer and some salad.
Ordered a veggie box to be delivered on Wed. I get one every few weeks and it always makes us eat more veg. My DS comes home for the week on Monday so he can have it unpacked by the time I get home from work:D. Might even persuade him to make some soup. When he's here he always cooks us fajitas - really really spicy ones- and it's so lovely to sit down and have dinner set down in front of me:).
Ok, off to get showered for work. Hope things are a bit better for you penpin.
(((hugs))) to folks feeling sad, ill or worried

Good Morning All! Nearly three weeks absence for me as we've been visiting family in Perth, WA. The weather has been wonderful and very warm, so arriving back at Heathrow yesterday at 5am was a bit of a shock! Despite a very early night I'm still feeling fragile, so today will be a gently paced one, methinks.
Need to do a general clean as my sister and her husband are coming to stay tomorrow. The washing's pretty well done, but I need to get cooking too.
Feel bad that I'm really out of touch with what's been happening here - so a general big ((HUG)) to all in any sort of need of one right now.
OK, must slip off and start the day properly!Resolution:
Think twice before spending anything!0 -
Morning all,
study day for me - might nip into town first thing as haven't been in for weeks..! Then down to some work after that. Will keep an eye on the weather & see whether it stays dry but blowy so I can hang some washing out. Think I will do jacket spuds for dinner today - as I'm home there's time to put them in the oven all the way through, rather than start in the microwave. I much prefer them completely oven-baked. I am going to fry up some diced bacon & mushrooms, then mix that in with the scooped out flesh, bung some cheese on top & back in the oven to finish off
Belated happy birthday to Noah'sPennilessMummy for yesterday, hope you had a lovely day?!
Moggins, good luck with the job-hunting & fingers crossed for the council one.
PenPin, you must be very proud of your DD, well done her!
MSDiva, hope you are feeling a bit less bruised today hon & that you managed to catch up with Tristan.
Candygirl - we're waiting in anticipation!!!!! Good luck to your DD
Mummysaver, sending positive thoughts for you and for your baby nephew. Hope all turns out well for you both.
((((hugs))))) for all those needing them too.Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)0 -

Morning Everyone
Managed to sort out a bit better connection (still dial-up) but not restricted hours now, so may get back more, I have been reading, but have had to load the page(s) then switch off and by the time I have finished reading I have forgotten what I was going to 'M' about - M - where are you?
OS wise we are mainly eating in, and dodging round doing jobs, the balustrades have been painted outside now, and we need to give the solarium a bit of a blitz, which has not been possible in prior years due to time being holidays, there is some paint on the tiles from the builders, etc., which we need to tackle. We have been so fortunate with the weather so far, hotter and drier than we could have dreamed of. Really hot sunny day forecast today, but threatening some rain over the weekend, so will tackle the ironing mountain then, and enjoy being outside today.
Can I add my pennyworth to what SD was saying the other day about what was needed - do any of you agree with me that half of the problems with thing getting done, Social Workers/Police/Drs/Nurses, any profession really even business wise, they have cut back on the lower paid shorthand/audio typists, and expect everyone to do their own as there are computers, not realising that it is totally inefficient. Typist are far faster, should have the ability to correct grammer/spelling without thinking, and let the professions do what they are qualified for? If 3-4 Social Workers could speak their report to either a dictphone or person, and then move on to the next tasks, they could get far more done? and one lower paid "typist" could get on with what she was good at far faster, producing something to be checked and signed off in minutes. Rant over.
Right off to have brekky, (((hugs)) to everyone, congrats to your DD P-P, Smoky talk to us.

Morning all
Well, I managed to get a good nights sleep last night with no nightmares :j Went to see doctor yesterday (have been having pains in my knee for a few weeks now) and she has referred me to hospital for an x-ray, she just said to pop in so will hopefully have time to do that today
DS (or little monster) and I are off to town later on, weather actually looks ok here at the moment so might be able to get some washing out on line as well. Have a mountain of ironing to do and need to hoover today as have no chance of doing it on weekend when OH home. Also need to meal plan as have joined the grocery challenge for April and our budget is that tight at the moment that failure is not an option :rotfl:
Tea tonight is chicken and leek pie with roast pots and AN Other veg.
Anyways, am off to get another cup of tea, ((((hugs)))) to all who need em
