Is this one ok and do I need to buy anything extra with it like connections or cables
http://www.amazon.co.uk/TeckNet-PH-35UA-HARD-DRIVE-ENCLOSURE/dp/B000Q7K9DA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1238059526&sr=8-2
and once the drive is in one of these boxes will it be like any external hardrive like I will be able to delete things from it as it will have a complete operating system on it as well as the stuff I want to keep can I just have files on it?Thanx

It looks okay but its from a third party supplier (TeckNet Online)which means you have limited protection if something goes wrong, and its not clear what cables come with it, if any. The photo is not clear enough to see if thats the complete power supply lead and a photo is no guarantee of what's in the box, it needs to be written in the description. There's no mention of a USB connecting cable either!?
Anyway once the drive is in the box and connected to your PC you can do what you like with it. It will show up as an external drive in 'My Computer' and you'll be able to move files to and fro at leisure. You can delete everything, or just keep your useful stuff (or even keep it as a bootable drive for emergencies but its a bit old and small to be practical for that).0 -
It says external poewer supply and plug and play would that be enough?
Edit
Found this in one of the reviews so it seems to have everything I think
REVIEW - Came only two days after ordering. Very simple to set up. Everything needed (minus hard disk of course) came in the box i.e. USB to USB cable, power adapter and the enclosure itself. I'd never used this kind of thing before and was very hesitant in buying it and was pleasently surprised. After a little format by Windows I now have an additional 160GB of external hard drive space. Neato.Thanx

'Plug and Play' is just a standard for connecting external devices. It doesn't mean there will be a USB cable in the box.
You could try and contact them to clarify. There's a "Contact this Seller" option on their Amazon page
edit - Yeah the reviews look good and are pretty recent so go for it and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
Oh and it only connects IDE drives not SATA by the look of it0
