See next time you go to to a incapacity benefit exam, please go with a friend, and you are also allowed to tape the session and your friend can take notes, and as for the lady being friendly dont make me laugh, she is trying to get you off guard, its all about the money.
You are unlikely to be able to tape the medical. You could ask permission but it would probably be declined.0 -
jox, I would say with the amount of pain you are experiencing that you need to go back to your GP / consultant and ask for your medication to be reviewed. Getting the dosage right so that you are relatively pain free can have an immediate improvement on quality of life.
With regards tasks you find difficult due to your health, can you ask for a referral or make a self-referral to your local OH team or adult social services team/ There are many aides available to help you in your normal day to day life so that it isn't such a struggle. There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. I beg to differ about asking permission,Peter Mathison, chief executive of benefits agency has stated that tape recording is allowed at the exam.:p
If they do allow it it has be carried out by a professional and paid for by the claimant, this would put most people off the idea. If this is not in place it will be declined.0 -
I agree that a tape recording has to be done properly, you cant just go in to an exam with a recorder and record, however the cab advises people how to mak a proper recording which is fairly basic ie you have to state the time of the recording who is present where the recording is at and state that it is an exam,if it is not done properly it will be useless, however the recording would not be declined.who states that the recording will be declined if a professional recorder is not present?0

You and the CAB are both wrong.
The recording you describe would be declined.
The Incapacity Benefit Handbook For Approved Doctors states that if a recording is to be carried out it has to be carried out by a professional.0 -
I googled Peter Mathison and Tape Recording. It brought up records from the mid to late 90's. The 'Benefits Agency' must have been called the Benefits Agency when he made that statement.0
