Claim back any unfair bank charges! Article Discussion Area

Hi
I apologise if this has been covered somewhere else and I missed it. What is the position if I've been notified of the charges, but they haven't actually been taken from my account yet? Any tips on getting the charge cancelled or stopped? It's £35 for a standing order not being paid from the Lloyds TSB. It's the first penalty charge I've had in around 4 years.
Thanks very much,

You should try and get a parachute account if you haven't already. This is in case they do close your account (some do, some don't) and is worth opening before your claim goes through.
Check out basic bank accounts as your credit rating may affect your ability to apply for others. The CAG forums have some good threads on basic accounts - search on there for 'parachute' and you'll find them.
RBOS generally leave it fairly late to cause you maximum cost (you get it back though) and try and put as many people off as possible. Stick with it and you will get your charges back. If they do close your account you might have to use the refund to pay back the overdraft, but think of the interest you'll be saving!
If you have any more questions post here or on the CAG forums - There are a few CAG members like myself here as well so you've got lots of support and help available.
Thank you, how do i get to the CAG pages.0 -
Hope it's ok to post links here.

You could try calling them and asking for it to be cancelled. This can work for one-off charges.
If not, then claim as everyone is doing, although if think you're going to get more in the near future you may want to wait so you can include them (I think you can add charges that occur while you're going through the process anyway).0 -

Hi
Sorry for the delay, I've not been on the net!
The bank I am trying to reclaim from is Barclays. Do I make the cheque payable to them then (in order to request my DPA stuff)?
Also, has anyone else claimed back from Barclay's successfully - kind of hoping they don't want me to pay back my overdraft immediately, because that's an impossibility!0 -
