westable wrote:Hello i am new to the forum, i read this site with regards to bank charges and went ahead and tried to claim back from my bank. The overall charges from 2 and a half years ago came to just over £1600. These charges were from going over overdraft and not being able to honour cheques some of small amounts and some of larger £99.00. Is it possible to claim all charges back? They have put £400.00 back into my account. I need to know if i should pursue it further. Help would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Welcome to MSE.
Yes ! go after all of it. They have taken £1600 off you unlawfully - why should you settle for 25% of that.
If someone took £100 out of your pocket and you caught him, would you let him go if he offered to give you £25 back ????0 -
Just a gentle nudge here. Please remember to try and make a small monetary contribution to the bank action group website. Without these people the majority of us would have no idea where to start with trying to reclaim these charges. They have provided all data and letter templates that are needed all for the princely sum of nowt. They ask for a donation of 5% of the amount you manage to claim back but I'm sure any smaller amount would be greatly appreciated. I'm not connected to these people in any way, just trying to do my bit.0

Can anybody point me in the right direction to calculating overdraft interest at 8%. I'm sure I seen a quick calculator somewhere on this website last week but for the life of me can't remember where. Need to send my prelim request for payment letter off tomorrow and am clueless about how much it would be0

My son has been struggling to stay the right side of his overdraft for many years, owing to a low wage and high mortgage. He has been charged punitive amounts in charges by Barclays, often the maximum £60 in a charging period, causing him even further hardship. Has anyone tried to claim these sorts of charges back (especially from Barclays)? Is it worth my son having a go?0

You don't need it if you're at prelim stage. You'll only need it when, and if, you need to issue county court claim, as it is the statutory APR allowed by County Court Act.0
