My son has been struggling to stay the right side of his overdraft for many years, owing to a low wage and high mortgage. He has been charged punitive amounts in charges by Barclays, often the maximum £60 in a charging period, causing him even further hardship. Has anyone tried to claim these sorts of charges back (especially from Barclays)? Is it worth my son having a go?

What do you mean, has anyone tried to claim these sorts of charges? That's what we all do here!!!
Me personally: £500 from 1 bank, £130 from store card, £170 from other bank, (all successful), and I have another 2 ongoing (£50 and £320), and a few more in the pipeline. And the amazing thing is that I'm not a bad budgeter, they ALL stemmed from 1 time of hardship in our lives 5 years ago.

    Definitely worth going for.

    Hi guys

I have just received a letter from my bank informing me that they could not honour a two payments from my internet account on the first of June for £161.37.I have now looked at my online account and I have been charged £50.

The problem is that on the 31st May, I requested a transfer of cash into my current account for the 1st June as I new that there were going to be a lot of payments and I was near to my OD limit. Looking at my account, at the end of 31st May there was a OD balance of 437.65, payments on the 1st of £489.63 (including the £50) and then a transfer of £1100 leaving me £172.72. Wouldn't the bank have seen that a transfer was due for that day? Can I still claim back this £50?

Sorry for the length of the post considering there are some forum members who are trying to claim back £1000's
when they were giving out brains, I thought they said 'trains', so I asked for a slow one... :(

Following on from my previous post, could anyone tell me if there are any banks taht aren't as 'charge-happy' so that I can change my account over?

By the way, I am currently with A&L and have read through some of the previous posts. As I fall into the 24 hours to clear trap, I don't think there is much I can do. :(

I'll answer both posts as one (losing out on thanks here, ah well, just as well I don't do it for thanks, lol):

Yes, you can reclaim the charges.

No, they're all as bad as one another.

    Yes. And yes.

I got money back from Ikea storecard, and it was a closed account.
GE are a pain in the ****, and trying every which way to wriggle out of it. Doesn't matter, we'll get there in the end.

Natwest pay out faster than Barclays at the moment. Barclays have been abusing the court system by taking it as far as possible before caving in. Their tactic is to offer a 50% refund, then withdraw it altogether if you refuse and then drag it out as far as possible.
