  • I must admit, i've noticed a few of these "ambulance chasers" on the net advertising their services to claim back bank charges and would take a cut. They have seen a gap in the market to take advantage of the people who feel they do not have the confidence to take the bank or banks on!!!

People stay away from these firms!!! Its just a matter of reading through the countless posts, use the pre typed letters on here and just go with the flow. On here you'll see we are all ordinary people who've been taken for a ride for years and it has to stop!!!!

My advice tinks72, is tell this company to cease your claim and do it yourself!!! Believe me, when you get that cheque through the door after you've screwed the bank, you'll get such a buzz of satisfaction you'll be on a high because you've done it yourself and you'll keep every penny the banks have been robbing off us all!!

Thats what i want when all this is done!!!
  • I'd say that tinks72 probably posted purely to promote the website but the post is worth leaving so as to warn people not to use them.

There are no details about who this company are and who is behind them and yet you need to allow them access to all your bank account numbers etc.

Tinks here, no I am not promoting the website, and i know that you can do it on here, but i just don't have the time to do it myself, and I am admittidly a little lazy, so I have got someone to do it for me, hopefully it will work, will let you know how it goes, either way i have lost nothing because i didn't realise that i could do this...
    Tinks xx
  • fair play tinks, not everyone has time to do it. Good luck with your claim, i guess you were right when you said, you did not know you could do it, so what you get back is a bonus!!

Edinburghlass, cheers for leaving my post on. I realise i was being harsh on tinks!!

    Go get them tinks!!!!!
  • Will be the first to let everyone know if this goes tits up... But all seems to be ok at the moment...

  • This is the initial template letter asking for your information in which you give them 40 days to comply.

    Dear Sir/Madam

ACCOUNT NUMBER: xxxxxxxxx (or multiple numbers if more than one account)

Please supply me with a complete list of transactions and charges relating to my banking history with your organisation. Alternatively, a complete set of statements for that period will be acceptable.

Additionally, where there has been any event in my account history over this period which has required manual intervention by any member of your staff, or any other person, I require disclosure of any indication or notes which have either caused or resulted in that manual intervention, or other evidence of that manual intervention in relation to my banking business with you.

If you are unable to supply this data because there has been no such manual intervention, then please be so kind as to confirm this in your response.

I enclose the statutory maximum fee of £10. You have 40 days in which to comply. Furthermore, if I discover that you have levied disproportionate penalties against me, then I shall be reclaiming them, and also reclaiming the enclosed £10 Data Protection Act subject access request fee.

If there is specific information which you require in order to satisfy yourself as to my identity, please let me know by return. However, please note that the above address is the one which you normally use to communicate my private business to me and which you have hitherto found to be acceptable.
I would be happy to collect the Data from my local branch.

    Yours faithfully,
  • I realised there wasnt going to be enough money in flex account to pay a DD, so I paid in £40 cash on day1 to cover it. BT took DD on day 1, which when I rang flex account on phone they confirmed should have only been taken on day2.
Nationwide returned to sender saying they take any DD's at start of day, so me paying cash in that day didnt matter. They say that if it was taken early, then thats for me to take up with BT and they should refund any charges made by the bank. (if its applied for early though, why should the bank release funds, tho thats a separate argument)
BT say its a variable DD so they can vary the date and the amount. Is that true? I cant believe that, surely they can vary the amount, but NOT the date!!
So never at the end of any days business would I have been overdrawn even had they paid the DD, I suppose technically wouldve been overdrawn for £1.04 for a few hours. Yet they have charged me £30!!
DD was for £12.48 and I had £11.44 in account, then the £40 added on day1

I have written to Nationwide asking for charges not to be taken, they have refused but have given me a number to ring if I have further questions.

What is the best way to persuade them not to take charges? Im hoping can get them to do it at this stage rather than go through other procedures for the sake of £30 (though I will if I need to)
  • sent off letter on 30th Oct for statement copies, recieved letter today saying will be sending them to me within 40 days, i wait with baited breath to see if they honour the letter any advice on this matter would be very much appreciated i will keep you informed with a progress report......

They have to by law supply you with the information requested under the DPA, they do need a little time to get the info together and get it out to you. They have 40 days to do this. So in answer to your question, this is just how it starts!
Littlewoods catalogue - won back charges of £300 by default.
