am just waiting for a cheque book (never needed one before!
) to arrive and I will be going for the throats of 1st direct and egg! once I have got them I will be going after cahoot but I have to act nice to them at the minute until I have another account open... has anyone had any joy with these 3 of getting the full amount? I think all together its about £2500 (not inc cahoot) which would look far nicer in my savings account!!!!

Many thanks Edinburghlass! they will come in handy!!! am going to sound dense now but here goes... with the DPA letter I need to give them 40 days in order for them to send a list of my charges etc, I take it that if they send them say 5 days later I can then move straight onto the letter requesting the refund giving them 14 days?!?!0 -
Hello there, i am about to claim money back from halifax, i have got the first letter from the link on this site. i have halifax visa and halifax cardcash to claim from. can i do both these in the same letter by putting both account numbers down and just paying £10? or do i send a letter for each account? any help will be great, thanx.
i know it says put multiple numbers for more than one account, im just checking that means bank account and visa account. im new to this stuff.0 -

ADVICE URGENTLY NEEDED.
My mum has just been offered £490.00 towards her charges of £1000.00. She phoned the number provided (barlcays) to say she wasn't happy with amount offered and was transferred straight to answer phone. Left her name and was called back today. They say there not prepared to offer anything towards her loss. She asked why certain people were allowed to negotiate and not others. The lady said "different people have different needs". My mum asked would they put this in a letter (Discriminating against people) they said no. They said this is full and final and she can do whatever she wants she won't get anymore.
They also said this to me so i accepted a figure of £250.00 rather than £385.00.
Obvioulsy my mums is alot higher but she doesn't have a lot of money should she fight for the £1000.00. £490.00 is alot to her!! and with Court Charges etc i don't want to see her struggle for something she won't get.
Have any banks been to court yet?
PLEASE HELP!!
Thanks
Don't worry, they will not go to court.
Last week a Consumer Corner member was paid a total of £17,408.83 on the same day. Her cases were against Woolwich and Barclays banks and would have been expected to be fast track cases. However, Shaun of Consumer Corner was able to get them both scheduled to be heard in the small claims court and both banks agreed to pay her claim in full including interest and court fees without going into court.
Shaun's member specific letters are becoming legendary. :rotfl:0 -
only my second ever posting so forgive the longwindedness!!
I am in process of delving into my accounts to try claim back any charges, tho the one i have done only amounts to about £100 as im usually quite careful, and usually fight the bank at the time when thot their charges were unfair - and in some instances had the whole lot refunded. :j
However while lokoing thro my statements i came across 2 instances where the banks made errors with my account as follows
1. they froze my account supposedly for debt i owed to the local council (only i didnt and it shouldnt have been my account). this was for almost £1300, which left me with nothing! I did complain and they did give me £25 to apologise.
2. they gave someone a chequebook with MY account number on it, and this man then went (just before holiday weekend) and spent £2500  on furniture. I went to bank on the friday night prior to going to stay with friends to discover had NO money in account. Of course it ruined my holiday weekend as i couldnt go anywhere! They apologised and paid me £150 but wouldnt accept responsibility for the "human error".
I just wish id known earlier to claim charges back as these were 1997/8 but i would have used them against them with the attitude of
"well if you charge me £30 per item for two D/D totalling £25 which you didnt pay then i will charge YOU £30 for every £25 overdrawn you maded me on these two occassions, therefore giving me a huge £4500!!!!
Gees i wish id known sooner!!! (or could i still use these against them???)0 -
I haven't received statements but I've had a letter saying that they're not going to charge for the statements (!) and that they'll be with me in the next couple of days.
The account was closed a couple of years ago but I guess I can claim for four years prior to its closure (making 6 years?).
I remember reading somewhere that the procedure for already closed accounts is slightly different. Is this the case or am I dreaming it? If so, what is the procedure?
Thanks in advance (again)!

I hope they don't send all the statements out, I've had the account for over 6 years! (and I've got 2 accounts with them!)
Eek, that's a) a lot of accounts to go through and b)a hell of a lot of paper to shred at the end of it (least of all, waste of a few trees)!!
I'll give them a call and try and get it electronically instead.
- Update - no, its not secure enough!
But then, with a synical hat on, they're not going to make it easy for me I suppose, they'll hope that seeing the mountain of paper will make be decide its not worth going through them all.
Little do they know...0
