Thanks dchurch, yes i meant the BankActionGroup website. i shall email them.

I have been with my bank for 10 years so i shall do as you say.

    Many thanks.
Current debt - £3040 on credit cards.

Should be debt free by June 2007! Wooohooo!
  • I am new to this money saving lark but getting one over on the evil bankers appeals greatly. Please forgive if this is a complete dunces question (I'm still wearing "L" plates). I have collated all the charges for returned DD's etc but was wondering if it is possible to claim for unauthorised overdraft fees and the interest they charge for using both the unauthorised and the authorised OD.

Go to https://www.bankactiongroup.co.uk - register and the letters you want are in the library.
  • I've recently asked egg to disclose all activity on my account since its inception releating to unfair bank charges etc..
They have asked for a £10 fee which I obviouxly don't want to give them. Is there anyway I can get around this? Surely I shouldn't have to pay to see what a company has on me?

    Many thanks
  • Can you still claim on bank accounts that have been closed in the past 6 years?

The £10 is the standard fee under the data protection act ... so yes ... they can charge you ... and no - if they request it - you can't get around it.

  • Has anyone ever experienced the unfair system of credits going in and direct debits coming out on the same day but the direct debit being returned because there were insufficient funds in the account despite the credit transaction on the same day?

It seems like they have a licence to print money. However if I was to use a manual system of paying in some cash and then make a withdrawal this would be permitted so why do the banks etc not use the same principle when it comes to automatic transfers?

today i received a standard letter back from lloyds, responding to my first request for the return of unfair charges.

they basically said that i should have known about these charges when i opened the account and when i got an overdraft.

they have however, offered to waive the 10 pound charge for statements of charges for last 6 years.

they have charged me over 1300.00 in charges over 4 years  for the usual delays in cheque clearing, returned DDs etc. - can i carry on with this claim despite this letter?

and what is the best step now?

    any advice??

    thanks all, aliyah

yes you can carry on ..... stick to the time limit you gave them then send the letter before action, template available in libary of https://www.bankactiongroup.co.uk

BTW I recieved that letter as well today from lloyds but no mention of me not having to pay the £10 .
Wish I could stop editing EVERY post I make
