Hi, I left the Halifax because of the amount of charges i was getting on my account, i have not been with them now for about 8 months, can i still claim with an old bank account???

Yes. In fact, it's easier because they can't threaten you with closing your account.

I'm thinking probably not, but thought i'd just check before totalling what is owed to me

    That depends. Regular interest, no.
Interest on the additional charges, yes.

Hi, i have just been looking through my bank staements from the last 5 years, and shockingly the total came to over £3000!!! But i also noticed that there was returned cheque fees too, Would i be able to claim those back too. Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes. Paid fees, unpaid fees, referral fees... Whatever the name, if the bank made a profit from charging you instead of just recovering their costs, it's unlawful.
  • Does this process include fees charged for arranging an overdraft facility, or is this legitimate? It certainly seems a bit steep - as a charity we were charged £50 by Lloyds TSB to set up a £1000 facility for three months in December, and when I asked if we could renew it I was told there would be a further £100 fee.

I cannot register on the bankcharges action website. I keep completing the form and when i click submit, it just refreshes the page! I cannot even contact the administrator as that requires a pass word.

I also registered about three days ago, but never received my confirmation email.

Is the site having difficulties at the moment?

Do you mean the BankChargesHell website or the BankActionGroup website?

If it's the latter then, it's having a little bit of trouble with the extra traffic - but it should be fine.

Send an email with your username to registrationproblems@bankactiongroup.co.uk and one of the mods should reinstate you.

Also, if you want 6 years, then they have to give it to you (providing your account has been with them for that long).

I would send the £10 along with a letter telling them that you will be reporting them to the Information Commisioner for not complying fully with your DPA request.

Not under the laws we are using at the moment - those fees are not penalising you, they are just a fee for providing a service - like any other business.

You could check the Sale of Goods and Services Act and see if there is anything in there that you could use - but I doubt it.
