Elona - I think bubble wrap may be the way to go in the short term, but I think the big rose has got to go. It has got lots and lots of little spikes as well as big thorns and the base is at least ten years old and therefore malicious looking.
Thank you lots and lots though, as I never thought of bubble wrap! I can get that sorted out today and then approach getting rid of the rose when I have the courage. Really appreciated.
I may see if I can get sweet peas to grow through the buddliea instead.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
We went out for our walk this morning, past the house of course, there is a brand spanking new line up and the fridge freezer doors have been left open, so can only assume that the repairs have been done.
Lovely bright morning, cold in the wind but pleasant walking. Two loads of washing done, one lot dried the other in the dryer now.
We have had another resident pass away this morning, I am beginning to think there is something in the water, there are now 3 empty flats and one studio vacant, so a big turn around in the next few months.
I got OH to go with me to get a new bed, we have had ours 10 years, it was in the spare bedroom but when we came back here to live we junked our old one. So I think it has earnt its pension.
OH is in bed with a dizzy just now..........think it was the stairs in the bed shop that brought it on, he came down them very slowly, said he was seeing double!!!
Managed to catch the window cleaner, he is not going to do the apartment windows but will do the upstairs at the house for us, the chaps are here cleaning out the gutterning........so lots of scrapping noises going on.Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -

:D
Lemon Drizzle cake
2 large eggs
175g (6oz) sugar
150g (5oz) soft butter or margarine
grated zest of 1 lemon
175g (6oz) self-raising flour - sieved
125ml (4floz) milk
pinch of salt
For the syrup:
150g (5oz) icing sugar
50ml (2floz) fresh lemon juice (about 1½ large lemons)- Preheat the oven to 180°C .Line the bottom of a well-oiled 9inch loaf tin with greaseproof paper
- Put the eggs and sugar and mix thoroughly til light and fluffy.
- Add the softened butter or marg and mix and then the lemon zest and mix some more. The mixture should now resemble mayonnaise.
- Add the flour, milk and salt and beat well - but do not over-beat or the cake will lose its 'fluffiness'!
- Spoon the cake mixture into the prepared tin and bake for 45 minutes, until golden brown on top and firm to the touch.
- Remove from the oven and stand the tin on a cooling rack.
- To make the syrup, gently heat the sugar and lemon juice in a small saucepan, stirring until a clear syrup is formed, about 3 minutes. Do not boil.
- P rick the warm cake all over with a fork, then gently pour the syrup over it, until it has been completely absorbed.
- Leave until cool, then carefully ease the cake from the baking tin and remove the paper.
Just before serving, sift a little more icing sugar on the top. Serve in generous slices.

Afternoon all,
Feel a little jealous of all you people who wake up early....I could still sleep for Ireland and often don't surface before 11 if I don't have to kick myself out before that.
DD4 headed off to college this morning...to discover that lectures don't start again until next Monday...means that she can get some work done while DGS is at school.
Going to yoga in a bit...I think...it is freezing cold here and hall where yoga is could be used as a freezer, there is no heating which can be timed to come on, will only start to warm up when class is almost over! OH has lit the living room fire and put the heat on 'constant' and for once I am not annoyed.
Sybil...I would just go with the bubble wrap and forget about getting rid of the rose if you really like it...LB will learn very quickly that it is not a nice thing to touch!
At last got jackets for DGDs 1&3 in the post...€7.50 to London, glad the package wasn't heavy. Now need to get on with the Christmas and birthday knitting....have nothing for new-born babies who may come my way so I may just knit a couple of jackets for babies in white, pink and blue, to cover all angles!
B&Q are offering huge savings on insulation at present, may go and get some for downstairs bedroom while OH is in Day Hospital to-morrow....he has a thing about insulation....says its a waste of money, so might just buy it and 'hide' it until DDs 3 & 4 can give me a hand to put it down (or up?)
Welcome to newbies, this is a nice comfortable place to be, hugs to all in need or want

Afternoon OS friends
Another glorious spring day here!
nic1lou2 - Thank you for missing me!! It was sweet of you to notice
Reverbe - so glad that you've finally heard from your OH.
Ladymay - I hate to admit it, but it was me 'accidently' kissing my friend that ended up with him still being with me 16 yrs later! We had been friends for about 3 yrs and I fancied him the whole time, but to him I was just a mate. So one night when we were watching tv I manoevred myself close enough to kiss him! Took him three months to admit we were dating but he finally did!
PippaS - I haven't been able to get out in to my garden either and I am really missing it. Mine isn't a lack of enthusiasm, just a lack of my OHs enthusiasm as he has to move things and bring the tubs and pots to me so cannot get on with anything else he might want to do with the little spare time he has.
shazba and paigexstewart - welcome to the thread!
Well I had my hair done yesterday and today I feel like a princess! :rotfl: :rotfl: . I had about four inches cut off and she put long layers around the front. Plus she used the straighteners on it so it looks all glossy and gorgeous. Worth every penny!
Have to starve tonight as the district nurse is coming early tomorrow to take more blood to confirm the diabetes diagnosis.
Tonights dinner will be spanish omlette with the left over bacon bits and anything else I can find to throw in! Washing is out on the line in the sunshine and the BM has just pinged, so we are set for lunch!
With warm gentle hugsto everyone who needs or wants one - do something nice for yourself today.

Meanmarie - I am not sure little bear will be sensible enough to leave it alone, or not try and stand up underneath it. A kind soul told me that he would be more careful when he had his first big bump. It hasn't happened yet! I am sorry you are cold, I am freezing here.
As for the insulation - it comes under the Ways and Means Act. My late grandfather could never be persuaded that cultivated blackberries needed to be cut back as much as they did, so when he was out we used to cut them back to the recommended 10 inches and then throw the remains in the river at the bottom of the garden 'to see if they would float'. Honest, Grandad, we didn't cut that much off. It just looks worse than it is. And all the evidence had disappeared.
Hugs to all.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
Well this lot of lotion and combing and tea tree oil seems to have done the trick, I am hoping I have eradicated them before Friday when I am having my hair cut and I am hopefully going out with OH, as I will be a football widow on Saturday but I dont mind I can get things done in the garden and sort out my pots as well ready for replanting when I get some more money.
Not sure what to do for Tea OH is off to work at 5 and that is too early for me to eat, I think I will be having a night in Animal Crossing tonightOf all the things I have lost I miss my mind the most£2,960 in debt to RBS paying off at £10 a Fortnight0 -
Good morning everyone
,
hope you are wellWe arrived in Seoul yesterday to find that our hotel reservation hadn't been confirmed and all of our cards were flagged and unuseable.
Not what I wanted to hear with evil jetlagStill, the hotel managed to fit us in and even honored the discounted rate we'd been offered by the third party booking scheme and threw in breakfast. The room is lovely - I think the standard of hospitality here is significantly higher here in general. That and a quick call to the bank sorted out everything, although for a while until then I was quite stressed. OH has no sense of urgency with sorting out stuff like this - and although his calmness is useful sometimes, other times his disorganiation and lackasdasical attitude drives me crazy.
We wandered round the markets yesterday as we are both tired to do anything specatular, although i will be back to shop for fabric and paper before going home. Th nice thing about always travelling with hand luggage is that you just don't know what to put in your suitcase when you do have one, hence we have about 20 kilos spare to play with.
Food is... a lottery. I'm allergic - massively horribly allergic - to seafood, which is not good (although my Korean friend at work wrote out the characters for anchovy, crab and various other evil looking sea dwelling critters for me before I left). OH has to keep tasting everything first to check for fishMuch kimchi _pale_ and the food is very very spicy. One striking difference is the lack of distinction between meals, so rice and mushroom soup for breakfast. Still, it doesn't matter where I go I will always want a cheese sandwhich within 48hrs.
Right - must go and try to sleep - it's 2am or there abouts here. havea good day all, cel x:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
Meanmarie - also little bear agrees with you about the temperature I think. He insisted that on top of his nice cotton vest, his long sleeved t shirt and his nice woolly sweater I put yet another long sleeved t shirt. I have put the heating on.
I am wearing one of my elderly hand knitted sweaters that is not only warm but a complete wreck after years of service.
Well, old style is not happening now - I am off to play with little bear!Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
Glad to hear you survived the out laws visit Celyn - enjoy your travels! x
Just a quickie before I forget, Tesco has easter baking tins for £3, there are 6 little moulds in it in assorted easter shapes, they are meant to be for making choc shapes, but I'm sure they'll work for cakes or jellies too - great for kids parties. I shall be grabbing one tonight!
Edit - they aren't as heavy duty as the lakeland shaped tins, but then they don't cost so much either!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000
