Not strictly Old Style, so sorry, but I know people on here, and it may be that the wonderful minds on here can help.
Is there something like fleece that you can wrap around eg a rose bush to stop the thorns scratching. It's a really tall rosebush growing through a buddliea, and looks lovely in the summer, but the base is quite ferocious and despite my best efforts little bear managed to back into a thorn (his scalp, thank goodness). If I have to lose the rose bush, I have to lose the rose bush, but I wonder if anyone has any suggestions.
Also, my 'garden' is front only, extremely small paved yard with a foot wide 'flower bed' surrounding (one side taken by rose/buddliea combo). And precipitate steps leading to the cellar kitchen. So I will be planting containers and watching little bear as closely as possible, but I think I need to make a call on the rose. All help appreciated.

Would bubble wrap work? Or de thorning it with a sharp knife while little bear was not around?
Figurine for aunt's 85th birthday present has arrived and I am really pleased with it, just need to find really lovely wrapping paper and card now.
Bills have just arrived for birthday presents and dinner for DD's 20th last month as well as petrol, wireless router etc. Just when I thought I could save a good bit this month.
