We go tomorrow morning, just getting postcodes for places and checking the weather! Not a clue what we're going to do on Saturday though, found some seaside places but they all say 'heavy rain' going to have a look for a nearby cinema I think, just incase!

Financially it maybe isn't the best idea, but at the end of the day it's your Mum and I'm sure she'd do the same if it was the other way round. Try not to sweat it too much!

I don't think you're stupid, just I've been there, trying to help, but unless someone adresses the root of their problem, you're not actually helping them. By taking on your mums debt it is legally becoming your debt, leaving you the responsibility for paying it off, denting your credit rating if payments are missed, and reducing your ability to get a mortgage or credit if you need to get a car for example.

I love my mum to bits, and I felt exactly the same as you, but now I resent that the £400 she should have paid off in 8 months is now £2800 2 1/2 years later and not shrinking at all. I want to get a mortgage soon, and I've been told I need to clear this with some of the deposit money before some lenders will consider me.

Ah I see Cinny, hope the weather forecast is wrong and you get good weather! Good idea to be prepared though :p

Thanks Dinah, you're very articulate and have a way of explaining stuff in a way that really makes you sit up and 'listen', if you get what I mean!

I can see why you resent the situation, I'd be annoyed too. Especially as it's affecting something that you want so much, and are working so hard for. If I'm honest, I could see the same sort of thing happening in my situation. But I'm determined not to let this cause any problems for me. But of course, that's easier said than done.

Did the £400 your Mum owes become £2800 due to interest, or because she added more to the debt? Or both!

It's one of those situations where although someone who has 'been there done that' is saying it's a bad idea, you do it anyway, and then realise they were right all along! I'll be on your thread in a year's time saying 'Dinah, I now owe thousands, you were right!'

Urgh both, she added to it and lots and lots of interest. Really annoyed that I still can't say no. She wanted me to book my brothers flights to Italy on my CC as she doesn't have one and she wanted the protection. That was over a month ago, I've paid it off, but my current account is overdrawn because she owes me money. Equally I paid for the deposit on their villa in Italy for the protection. Fair play, she paid me back the deposit. However, now the balance for the villa has come off my card too. I'm CERTAIN that this box was ticked that 'no, we don't want you to auto deduct it from the card, but its come off anyway, which means in total she now owes an extra £352, with no hope at all of getting any of that before August 25th when dad gets paid, and even then I doubt I'll get all of it, and by then she'll have borrowed the card again 'for protection'. Grrrrr!!!!

That does sound very irritating Dinah. I think one good thing about my situation is that I can tell my Mum what to do, in a way. In that I've told her how much she needs to pay to who etc, so that it hopefully won't go wrong. Her mental health gets bad at times and she can't do a lot of things. Sometimes even writing a shopping list is hard for her to do cuz she can't focus. So I help her out with paperwork/money.

I have been able to reduce my overdraft by £300 today which I'm pleased about. I might be able to transfer some more but for the moment I'm leaving it in my account.

Dentist went well, my teeth are healthy! :T

    Friday - Spending

    Dentist £20.50
    Petrol £23.80
    Tesco £13.71

    Avoidable spending - £6 :o

I hope I manage not to spend much/anything when I go shopping with my aunt tomorrow.

Yesterday was a good day. I didn't spend any money, and I got treated to a pair of shoes! :j

These are my shoes - http://www.kurtgeiger.com/online-shop/74445-carvela-awesome They are strange in that they look so much better on than off! I do love them though.

I'm still not feeling well. I feel as if I've got a cold, but without the runny nose. I'm getting sick of feeling hot/cold/sweaty/chills. :(

I may have to cancel my overtime shifts for Tues, Wed, Thurs and Fri if I don't feel any better by then. That will be annoying.

    Nice shoes! You lucky girl.

Hope you feel better soon as well. Don't want to work and run yourself into the ground if you are feeling unwell.

I am a lucky girl! I was gonna buy them myself but then my uncle insisted that he pay seeings as they didn't get us much for xmas  :o

Thanks, my Mum is worried that I have.. dum dum dum... the dreaded Swine Flu! Because I have a fair few symptoms, and there are some confirmed cases where my family live/where I work. And it's only a small town, and working in a supermarket means I have been in contact with a lot of people.

But I don't feel ill enough for swine flu, if that makes sense. I'm not even sure how you're meant to get it confirmed whether or not you have it. Cuz if you suspect you have it you're not meant to go to the doctor are you? So how do you know?! Argh, it's so complicated.

Lol, I bet it's just the common cold, and my Mum is being uber-worried! :p But if anyone knows more about all this than I do then I'd be grateful for advice!

Well some people who have it don't actually feel that bad apparently.

What you are supposed to do is ring nhs direct and if they think you have it, you need to send someone to get the medication. It has the synptoms on their website but that seems to make out we all have swine flu!

    Ha, yeah it does.

Well I rang them Sat night (40 mins on my mobile waiting, to an 0845 number - not very money-saving ) and they weren't helpful at all. The nurse said stay at home, rest and drink lots. When I asked whether it'd be ok to go to work today she said if you feel well enough, but stay home and rest. She didn't actually say whether I just have a cold, or something else.

Apparantly GPs are giving diagnosis' over the phone in my area, rather than sending off blood test results. So maybe i'll give them a ring tomorrow if I'm not feeling any better.
