I also normally do cauliflower and broccoli cheese, and what is really nice with it is pasta!!!! Sometimes i just add pasta, sometimes i will add peppers, onions or tomatos (also bacon or chicken, maybe for OH and kids but not for you!!!) a mixture or all of it, depends how i feel and what i have here, it all tastes great!!!

Have a look at mrbadexample's Cauliflower cheese thread, hilarious :rotfl:

He mixes pasta and a mediterranean cheese with cauli and (I think) broccoli. He adds bacon too but that could be easily ommited.

Ooh gosh, all your ideas sound yummy, can't wait for tea tonight now :D

Baked spuds is a goody we like that, and crusty bread. Quite often make it with broccoli in if caulis are little or expensive or whatnot. Do you know I'd never even thought of having it with pasta, I bet that's really nice. Or if there's any left, the fish idea would be good for the kids - I don't eat it - could just mix in some pasta and nice fish the night after, bet they'd love it, and so cheap and healthy.

The cauli fried in egg sounds interesting. Would I just coat the florets in some beaten egg and fry? Sounds like it would be nice with noodles/chinesey stuff?

I'd never thought of adding potatoes or having it more mediterranean style either, they both sound lovely. Not sure about having egg in with it - can't imagine it? But I'm sure it's probably lovely. Ooh and nice crispy roast potatoes, they would be lush too.

Thanks for sharing your ideas everyone, I've jotted them all down. You've inspired me, it's a lot more flexible than I'd thought. Now I just have to choose for tonight!

will come back to you three times as strong!

  • You could alway separate the cauli into florets and make a tempura batter for them if you like oriental style meals??

The thing I enjoy best with cauliflower cheese is a slow cooked gammon and baked potatoes.

  • By coincidence, we had cauliflower and broccoli cheese last night. I tend to also chop up a leek or two and an onion to add a bit more flavour in my version. We don't have anything with it as such, as it is quite filling; although I did feel inspired and made some chocolate cakes for afters :-)

:shhh: that's because you are posh :silenced:

Yes, if you think of it more as a cauliflower au gratin and as a side rather than a main, it does open the mind to possibilities :D
