What has replaced the plasma screen

what do you think of the term yuppie (no longer very fashionable). do any of you consider yourself to be (or have been) a yuppie? and are you happy with the connotations of the term?
I still have a mug someone gave me from the orginal yuppie eighties ( OMG I am getting old!). It has little drawings all over depicting a yuppie couple ( she has a suit with shoulder pads) and things like a pasta machine, a Volvo station wagon (?), Perrier water, a Sony Walkman!!, a "home computer" and a VCR:D
I think I'll take it to the next antiques roadshow. My favourite subliminal message is;0 -
Now blu ray is something I really don't get! Are they the same as DVDs? I'm imagining they aren't or no one would buy them, surely? There is nothing wrong with DVDs as far as I'm aware, so not entirely sure of the benefits.
I'm still getting over the fact that you don't have to rewind DVDs. Amazing.
Better picture and sound quality. Barely more expensive than DVDs*. HD tellies cost marginally more than non-HD, if you can even find a sub-720p tv these days. No reason not to, surely?
* For the discs at least. The players are still several times the cost of even the more expensive DVD players. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -

You see I am the sort of person who would never notice the better sound/picture. Also, it would mean I would have to have 2 players, one for blu ray and one for dvds? Or can you play DVDs through blu ray players? Because I don't want to get rid of my DVDs. I said that when DVDs came out about getting rid of my videos, but the lure of not having to rewind, and being able to just pick an episode or whatever, was too irresistable. I don't think that "better picture and sound quality" has quite the same appeal, especially if these players are very expensive!0 -
Most (all?) Bluray players play DVDs, yep. The quality is noticeably better to most people, but some don't see it. I have terrible eyesight and watch HD stuff on my little 15.4" laptop screen and it's noticeable to me. It's even more noticeable on a 32"+ screen. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

Once you've bought your giant plasma (LCD) screen, you have to get a Blu-ray player so you can make use of all that high definition. Of course you need to sit really close to the screen to see the difference, and that might make you square-eyed or sea-sick, but its better than admitting that the screen was a bit of a waste of money.0 -

You are not alone.
I appriciate that the new gto me tv doesn't have persistant snow, I'd be foolish not to. but I kinda miss the old, quirky tv too. I accidntly wiped all the channels on my tv last week but managed to work out how to fix it at the weekend. I'm kind of unbothered.:o 0 -

Nah the screen wasn't a waste of money, the old one was broken and we needed a new one! They are actually suprisingly cheap now, even compared to the old "big" teles a few years ago. And I must admit it takes up a hell of a lot more space.
I don't really care about this HD thing, but most teles have it already now don't they?
I'll be watching the apprentice on it tonight, and I'm not overly bothered whether I can see all the lines and wrinkles in Sir Alan's face or not!0
