Hmmm, now theres a thing.............. The mother of all money wasters the EU, trying to ban expensive things of little value.

Actually I dont get this thing against plasmas, I havent actually got one I have got one of them big old pieces of crap thats about the size of an average terraced house taking up half my living room.

Fair enough some people buy a big TV as a bragging tool, but I want one cos I want a big TV. I NEVER open our curtains anyway, and could'nt give a flying what people thought of it, I buy things I want, for me, irrespective of other people.

Been looking at HD home projectors actually, you can have an 8 foot picture for less than the price of a plasma. Who wouldnt want to watch Deal or no Deal on an 8 foot screen?

I have tended to lean towards to eco/ethicaly made stuff lately though.

So if its bad for the environment and assembled by 8 year olds in a sweat shop, then I'm buying it!

whether I want it or not..........cos I'm like that :)

Wouldn't want the passers-by to notice the bad skimming would we?:D

does anyone know the origin of the word 'chav'? i believe it's an acronym for Council House And Violent.

i really liked the doc julie burchill did a few years ago where she said that the word 'chav' was basically invented by the middle class to put down the working class.

Some Londoners & Travellers call children Chavvies, I believe its come from that.
The Traveller link is further believeable because Chav & p1key mean similar things & p1key is a not nice term for Traveller.

Probably comes from Turnpike, which was a toll road in days of yore :D

I think designer clothes are still the chav's preferred way of showing their wealth. The bailiffs can't take your clothes apparently.

Nor your tattoos and piercings. ;)

    SMEG fridges?

A girl I know bought a new house, and in describing it to me said

"It's lovely, it's got built-in speakers and a smeg fridge......oh yeah, and it's in an OK area too"

My other fridge is a SMEG...

And my middle son saved for a whole year (pocket money, Christmas and birthday money) to get his Wii.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    I've been Money Tipped!
re the wor ''chav'' I think its horrid, what ever its origin, of which my understanding is much the same as Ninky's. Its even sadder that dislike the word and hate the idea of lexically segregating a group of people in this way, yet I can identify the people labeled as chavs, and understand it. I can't help think that this is a joke of society...the chavs, me having typical middle class dislike for the word chav, and yet in my gut appreciating why it exists. It makes me very sad, and I feel embarrassed to be part of this mockary. :(
