I was soooo anti plasma until, almost simultaneously, our 2 tvs (bedroom and lounge), which were each about 12 years old broke.
I wanted to get cheapo second hand ones but the boyfriend was dead set on posh new ones.
So within weeks we got a little dinky one for the bedroom (which I love) and a hideous big thing for the living room (which makes me get motion sickness). Apparently they are LCD though not plasma? However that could be a complete lie as I don't understand technology.
I have got used to it, and also allowed myself to indulge in a nice wooden unit thing to stand the tv on (I hate TV stands with a passion).
I must admit it is rather good for watching the football on, even if I do still get sea sick from it..
One other plus is that I can move it myself to clean underneath it, whereas the other one was too heavy.
must be an LCD if you're feeling seasick. LCD doesn't refresh fast enough to give a decent picture (in contrast to plasma), especially when watching fast moving sport. it's ok for bowls though, or if you pay extra for a 100Hz LCD set. i hate LCD tvs, the only good things about them is they don't take up much space, and aren't too heavy.
plasma all the way. who cares they use as much power as an aircraft carrier.0 -

Our cluckers cost us an absolute fortune. Just wait until one of them develops its first oddly swolen feet. One thing that is definatly not suffering deflation is vet bills. A gazillion pounds a visit, plus medicine.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Yes, certain breeds are expensive. I'm not new to chickens,
but we had a fox visit and we decided to try a couple of new breeds. So I have three breeds now, and might add another couple before the end of summer
but I'll do that with eggs probably, these are POL pullets. And a new rooster

.Not sure but I am thinking of buying a sports car for the summer.
Mid Life Crisis I think.
and me. a honda s2000 if I can manage it.
when I was younger I always wanted a sports but couldn't afford it - now I can I'm too bloody old! (46 going on 24).
if you're going to have an MLC you might as well do it in style.0 -

This is a good question, Lostinrates. What is the common yet extravagent consumer item du jour now? I can't think of one - a sign of the times? More modern LCD tellies are about £500 - about the same as a CRT telly in the 1980s in real terms, if not less I reckon.
We bought a new 36" LCD TV last week. We've had my parents old one for about 10 years which finally gave up the ghost. I was surprised how cheap they were - ours was about £390, but you could get a 36" one for around £250 if you went for a cheapy make and model.
I would agree about Dubai. The latest naff thing to spend your money on. It's basically Benidorm for people who think that have more class than people who go to Benidorm, but in reality just have a bit more cash. I'm generalising for comedic value here, but you know what I mean. Looks an awful place to me.
Edit: Our TV may be 32" now I come to think of it. Not sure. Anyway, it's not the size, it's what you do with it.0 -
Oh I dont know maybe one of these?
Bang & Olufsen has introduced a 103-inch monster plasma-TV in the BeoVision 4 range called BeoVision 4-103.
It's not cheap and will be priced at 100.000 Euro + VAT ! (!!)
There's a nice video on their website, too, showing how the automatic stand lowers and hides the stand and speaker when the TV is turned off.
Well worth the money..lol0
