hi btd, jellie, cmd and imd

I think that job was sucking the life out of me.

The dilemma now is - do I stick to my guns - and go for a change of career or do I compromise and take a similar job to what I had before.... Bearing in mind any course wouldn't be until September - and we need money for it and during if I went down that route. I think I need to at least apply for the council job I saw - although they are notoriously difficult to apply to - and poss for the local job on decent money.

I have seen a few freelance academic writing sites now who take newcomers -but they would want a sample of my work - suitablely referenced.... hmmmm - Don't really want to write something new at the mo - may need to find something hardcopy I did for my post grad and send an extract from that!!! At least if I had a go at writing for organisations like that I could a) learn on the job and b) see if I enjoyed it.

I would far prefer to write a novel but still have a lot to learn and this may be a way to learn it....

SH could the painkillers for the knee be causing the tummy problems, I know when I was on strong painkillers, I had to be on other medication to stop sickness problems, and also others to stop them causing stomach problems which they could do if you weren't able to eat normally. Could be worth checking the info sheet with the painkillers.

Good luck with the big career decisions.

hi se - it is a possible side effect of taking lots of painkillers - but even when I reduced it didn't improve things...

    Statement of intent / vision

I would like to be a writer, speaker and coach and think it is about time I spent some effort trying to make that a reality rather than being distracted in another direction by my "comfort zone" but depressing day job.

Goals for now until end March

    1) Lose 9lb in weight
    2) Use the wii fit or equivalent for 3.5hours a week approx 30 mins per day and encourage family members to do the same
    3) Finalise paperwork for last contract and send off to secure payment
    4) Send of scanned documents to freelance writing organisation (s) and try and obtain writing work - if get will need to set up as self employed or limited company!
    5) Continue to investigate study options
    6) Arrange for free coaching for me - to clarify goals and next steps and motivate me (already have some contacts)
    7) Continue physio if req (ouch £40 per session)
    8) Get further sick note if req (c£80 per week in my favour)

Decide whether to get a "full" or "part" time job while waiting for September's course (if I decide to do one) - and if so is this just a low paid local job - or something in existing field.....

Your plans and ideas sound exciting and I hope as you find outcomes that give you that sense of peace deep within if you know what I mean!

Hi Jellie - I was talking to a friend Tuesday night and basically - I would like to live a positive and fulfilled life and help others do the same - but the reality of my day job was almost opposite to that and could be quite negative - particularly in terms of consequences to some of the people I had to deal with. So I think regardless of what I do next - I want it to positively impact the majority of people I deal with rather than potentially being a negative role... I think that in itself would greatly help my own general health and well being.

Loving that statement. Just the words Statement of intent / vision sound sooo positive.

In my previous job I did ILM coaching course and it can be really satisfying to feel you have had a positive effect.

    Thanks jellie and gill!

Just been doing some forecasting and ebanking - definitely need to start getting a proper income in asap - otherwise will have to use remaining savings (£1400) or getting deeper into overdraft which is obviously not what we want....

    hmmmm....

This weekend will get OH to scan some stuff onto computer for me so I can send it off for the freelancing job and then see where things go from ther I think...

Well I've done 22 minutes on the wii today and the kids have both done at least 30 minutes so that is a start! I've had to be careful what activities I do due to my knee but I must admit I enjoyed the boxing which unlocked for me tonight. I have also been trying some of the balance games as at least they should be good physio for my knee!
