Hi, i went to weigh in yesterday & lost 1lb! not too dissapointed though as my partner works away from home & was back last fri - tues, so didnt do as good as i should have done! I really want to loose more than 1lb next week though, i`ve lost 9.5lbs in 3 weeks so far.

I`ve just been having red & green days so far as the extra easy plan wasn`t explained to the new poeple in group when we first joined, i would like to try the EE but i keep thinking, will it work? because if that works why bother with red & green days at all iyswim?
My aim this week is definatly to drink more water as i don`t drink enough fluids & to try some different reciepes, going to mke the baked bean lasange later! x

o - has anyone got a tefal actifry - do you use the tbsp of oil and how many syns does it work out???? - liking the idea of healthy 'fried' syn freeish chippies mmmmmmmm
    Hi bjb,
I have had an Actifry for well over a year now and can't praise it enough. I always fill it to the top (although it says to only fill to the fill line) If you do this you will have to keep opening the lid for the first 15 mins or so to pop some runaway chips back in but it's definitely worth the effort. I use one scoopful (the scoop comes with it) of olive oil, 6 syns and share the chips between three of us cos we are greedy but it would serve 4. The chips are brilliant. I used Maris Pipers or King Edwards in the beginning as reccommended in the instruction book but lately have used whatever is on offer (particularly Somerfield Value bags at £2.08) and have always had great success. One important point is to dry the potatoes in a towel first but I don't dry each individual chip. The Actifry is expensive to buy but honestly it's worth the outlay. I use a Nicer Dicer to cut the chips which is my favourite kitchen helper or maybe it's the Actifry... both are fab.

I was just wondering how many people have been able to get Slimming World on referral from their doctor?

I went to see one of the partners at my doctors Last August to be told that the PCT does not fund it presently in my area, as it is taken from ALF (additional local funding) monies. He asked if he could weigh me then exclaimed "I'll give you one thing, you don't look as heavy as you are" and then promptly offered me Orlistat!!

I decided to take the bull by the horns and even though I could do without the money I went to SW and joined the following week. 30 weeks later I am 3 stone 1/2 lb down............

Now the reason I ask is that someone I know who has a little more weight to lose than me went to the same doctor and asked for a gastric banding, it went forward to the PCT and they have agreed the funding in principal, once an exercise and diet plan has been followed.

How does this make sense?? I have worked out that the cost of this one operation could send at least 34 people to SW for a year!! So basically, is it just my area that doesn't offer SW on referral or are others slow on the uptake too?

It is frustrating that different PCTs do different things - I'm afraid it's a postcode lottery and there's not a lot you can do other than lobby the PCT to fund it. Gastric banding operations are not routinely agreed for the people the SW on referral programme is aimed at. They upped the BMI threshold for grastric ops recently to, I believe, around 45 unless there are exceptional circumstances, in which case it goes to a board to decide on whether to agree to the surgery. SW on referral, where it's funded, is for anyone who is over-weight. With gastric banding, you're required to lose 10% of your bodyweight yourself and make dietary changes before the operation. You also should routinely be seen by a clinical health psychologist prior to an agreement to go ahead.

Don't know if that's helpful or not! It's a funny system.

I took the Sainsbury's Be Good to Yourself egg mayo in to class last night and told everyone it was syn free. My leader just rang and it's not free - it's 1 syn per tablespoon. I'm sure at the beginning of the week it was syn free when I looked online. Now I feel bad for taking it in and telling the group about it!

She's just rang back and it was an error on the website. So it is syns and not syn free.

Phew, now we can blame any weight gain this week on the egg mayo rather than the easter eggs ;)

Chocolate at the ready girls.....get set....go....

Vegetable lasagne for lunch for me today. I'm thinking of doing a Monster lasagne for the kids using green peppers, and mushy peas instead of baked beans. Looks like green slime....might be able to sell it to them...

Hello everyone. I tried doing SW by myself a while back, but I was far too good to myself with treats and was quite rubbish at it. I'm going to start my local SW class tonight for a bit of motivation, to hopefully kickstart some weightloss. Do you find it works better when attending the classes? Any tips would be appreciated.

aye - they have changed the website re the 'free' egg mayo ... all reduced fat egg mayo is now 1syn per tbsp

    :(:(:(

Mind you, time to go back to making our own low syn - I made some for the family the other day with 4 eggs (free), salt and pepper, some spring onions and 2 tbsp hellmans extra light mayo (1/2 syn per tbsp) - it made loads, and came in under 1/2 syn each ... probably had less 'nasty stuff' in it too ...
  • Hope this helps........
Been back doing SW for 4wks now and have lost 1st 1.5lbs so far (still have some way to go) am aiming for my 1 1/2 stone and then my club 10 at the mo. Well done, thats a good start!

I made the free SW quiche today for the first time (with pasta n sauce) but think I must have gone wrong somewhere as it just looked like pasta with cottage cheese mixed in  it was cooked through and tasted ok just looked odd! Any tips?

Also I just read above that using the same B choices can harm your weight loss. I usually have oat so simple and scan bran for brekkie cos its quick easy and filling. Is it a problem having the same cereal every day? My other B choice is usually meat or cheese on a green day. Have you tried the Extra Easy plan? You might find it better for you, and yes, sticking to the same B options can affect some people, if you go online there are LOADS of B options to choose from.

Lastly a syns question. I've only been using 5-7 syns a day - do you think I'd be better upping it to nearer 10? I'm still breastfeeding my 7m old but worry about using too many syns early in the day incase I get the munchies and fancy something in the evenings BUT usually I don't. And am I ok saving some syns up this week so I can enjoy a creme egg and hot cross bun on sunday? YUM You shouldn't save them up, but remember if you only have 5-7 syns at the moment, then when your weight loss slows down nearer target you will have nowhere to drop to, I started on 12-15 syns, but have found I naturally have about 10-12, then when I get another couple of stone off I will drop to 8-10, then if need be down to 5, just think if you start with low syns where can it drop to?? If you are breastfeeding I don't think it would hurt to increase them up to 10-12, just depends how much weight you want to lose.

    thanks :D
