  • I'm still here Judders  but you will find a whole new group of friendly regulars here now - old faces, new faces, such is the joy!!

I had a gain this week :o but am back to basics for a few days to attempt to redress the balance before the family-restaurant-fest that is Easter...

I don't knwo if this helps at all but I stopped going to group about a year ago and tried to go alone. It didn't work.

I started to talk to two friends who were in a similar situation. I offered to have them over to weigh in together fortnightly. Our group has now grown to 7 people. We meet up and weigh together and then I cook them all a meal (we all contribute to the cost).

Anyway, we are all steadily losing as we are accountable to each other. It's really supportive but we also have a 'no excuses' rule that works well :D. We also stay in contact midweek too.

Maybe others could do the same...... I'd much rather sit and chat over a meal then listen to Image Therapy. Plus we no longer 'cheat' after group as we're all getting fed which definately helps me (I could easily eat all my weeks syns in one evening's take away :o).

This is very interesting and a good idea if you cant go to class.

Personally I find Image Therapy pointless after a few months. Listening to 'well done 1/2lb off' around every member every week is not as helpful as hints and tips or recipes , cooking ideas. WW was a better meeting overall but SW is a much better eating plan. I love Slimming World but dont stay every week after the weigh in as its getting a bit boring.

Yeah I think I quite agree with that tbh - and some at our class don't half go on and on and on -

Hello judders....I am still here ....
......still need to lose some more but weight loss has slowed to a meandering snail pace which is a bit frustrating.....tbh I need to shake up my sw regime as I am stuck in too many same ruts eg always go for green, same old healthy extras..etc
Could lusting after those Thai buffets you tell us all about ;)

    I agree too
I remember having a long conversation with my manager once. It was a lovely summer and I wanted to have a bbq with my group and (for one week only' drop image therapy...... unsurprisingly she said 'no'

The thing I struggled with was knowing that actually IT is very false. Firstly most people who put on weight and need the support don't stay to group. Secondly, people lie! Yes really. And because I was a consultant I couldn't do anything publically about it. There was the guy who was slimmer of the week every week for 2 months (gastric band!), the girl who lost four stone in three months (on speed.... and I don't mean speed foods!), the woman who also lost weight quickly (taking laxatives) etc etc

Sadly, there were also a lot of people who gained weight during my time for reasons they would never discuss in the group..... divorce, death of a child, abusive relationship etc etc.....

But from a consultant point of view can I just say that the reasons the groups go on and on is that in every one there seems to be at least one member who just goes on and on and on and shutting them up is REALLY hard work :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Anyway, rambled enough now and must say that all in all I do really miss the job.

  • I think it depends on the group, at mine I would say most (I can't say all because I clearly don't know) of us are totally honest, we admit our failings and have got to know each other really well, but like I say it depends on the group.

I have never been able to lose more than 2 stone alone and we always give each other hints and tips and have regular 'taster' evenings where we take all manner of food in (SW friendly of course!) and get to try recipes that we might not have tried before, a lot of us give support to each other mid-week too, text messages, facebook etc etc.

Its all down to personal choice, but I really enjoy I.T. as its our chance to have a real laugh and help each other out. I can't really afford it (thats why I asked my Dr to refer me via the NHS-which didn't happen grrrrrr) but now I would never stop going, I know from having tried weighing with friends and having sat and had a good old chat about things with various people over the years it does not work for me, I.T does........
I believe that I have the strength to make my dreams come true
