Hello everyone. I tried doing SW by myself a while back, but I was far too good to myself with treats and was quite rubbish at it. I'm going to start my local SW class tonight for a bit of motivation, to hopefully kickstart some weightloss. Do you find it works better when attending the classes? Any tips would be appreciated.

I too tried to do it alone for the past 10 years I have tried all sorts of plans, refusing to pay a weekly fee "for someone to weigh me!" well, it clearly didn't work, I haven't been able to do it alone and ended up at my heaviest EVER last summer, every time I have gone it alone I have lost a stone or two in a couple of months, got bored and then given up.........then put it all back on plus some......

I definately recommend classes, I have stayed focused for the past 30 weeks (longest time ever!!) its not even the fact that someone else weighing me keeps me going its the huge support we all give and recieve from each other in class, if you've had a bad week and have eaten for england its likely someone else has too, so you don't feel as bad when you slip up as you can see others do too, the difference now is if I slip up and have a flexi day I don't let it affect the rest of my week, before it would have given me licence to stop the dieting and get back to eating all the stuff I should have been eating in moderation. I am a compulsive binge eater and slimming world has almost (I say almost because with eating disorders they never really go away) 'cured' me, well not cured but its helped me control it!!

    Good Luck!!

Well, I have done it alone from Day 1. Bought my books off eBay and started with a really positive mind. You can see from my signature, it's working for me!

I think the key to it is being in the right mindset. If you're gonna cheat and not count everything, or not have the will power to keep yourself on track, you would probably struggle. It depends on the individual.

I know people who have gone to classes and lost good amounts. I also know someone who went to class, lost sod all and actually put on due to the pressure and expectation.

I only have myself to please - no-one to answer to and no-one to tell me what I should and shouldn't be eating. My mind is focused and I manage really well. If I have a bad week, I do! What's done is done. I am very conscious of what I buy and what I eat, I keep a very clear and concise food diary and I meticulously (if that is splet right!) weigh and measure everything.

    Just my views!... :j

It was obvious this wouldn't be free, why would it? It has low fat mayo in it which is not free.

    Hello all!
I thought I'd pop across from the OS weightloss thread and join you if you don't mind?

I've been back at SW for 5 weeks now and have lost half a stone with another half a stone to go. Its my wedding in 6 months time and I want to be slim and healthy for it not a just a bit podgy and self conscious.

I'm aiming for an initial stone in total (which would take me to almost 9 and half stone) but I'll see how I feel when I get there.

I'm a veggie so stick to green days and find it fairly easy to do but I've almost entirely stopped drinking alcohol. I'll indulge a bit over the weekend but I'm always conscious that I don't want to spoil the weightloss when drinking.

Anyway, just saying hello and I'll pop in every few days to see what others are doing and to pick up tips.

    Have a great Easter!
Only 15 mins left to go at work for me!
  • I don't knwo if this helps at all but I stopped going to group about a year ago and tried to go alone. It didn't work.

I started to talk to two friends who were in a similar situation. I offered to have them over to weigh in together fortnightly. Our group has now grown to 7 people. We meet up and weigh together and then I cook them all a meal (we all contribute to the cost).

Anyway, we are all steadily losing as we are accountable to each other. It's really supportive but we also have a 'no excuses' rule that works well :D. We also stay in contact midweek too.

Maybe others could do the same...... I'd much rather sit and chat over a meal then listen to Image Therapy. Plus we no longer 'cheat' after group as we're all getting fed which definately helps me (I could easily eat all my weeks syns in one evening's take away :o).

This sounds a very sensible approach that I am sure would be approved of by our host Martin Lewis. I would be interested to hear his views on the subject of dieting and fees....:money:

aye - they have changed the website re the 'free' egg mayo ... all reduced fat egg mayo is now 1syn per tbsp

    :(:(:(

Mind you, time to go back to making our own low syn - I made some for the family the other day with 4 eggs (free), salt and pepper, some spring onions and 2 tbsp hellmans extra light mayo (1/2 syn per tbsp) - it made loads, and came in under 1/2 syn each ... probably had less 'nasty stuff' in it too ...
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: what i've been wacking it on my toast on jackets freely :mad: , i wish they would make up there minds .
Mind you if its too good to be true go then always go with caution , its my own fault x

It was obvious this wouldn't be free, why would it? It has low fat mayo in it which is not free.

Which is why I also doubled checked with my consultant after seeing on the SW website that it was free. She checked directly with SW and said they said yes it was.

She didn't know any different until I told her today after reading this thread.

If SW website and staff say it's free (after being questioned) then I (stupidly) believe them.
