I was just wondering how many people have been able to get Slimming World on referral from their doctor?
I went to see one of the partners at my doctors Last August to be told that the PCT does not fund it presently in my area, as it is taken from ALF (additional local funding) monies. He asked if he could weigh me then exclaimed "I'll give you one thing, you don't look as heavy as you are" and then promptly offered me Orlistat!!
I decided to take the bull by the horns and even though I could do without the money I went to SW and joined the following week. 30 weeks later I am 3 stone 1/2 lb down............
Now the reason I ask is that someone I know who has a little more weight to lose than me went to the same doctor and asked for a gastric banding, it went forward to the PCT and they have agreed the funding in principal, once an exercise and diet plan has been followed.
How does this make sense?? I have worked out that the cost of this one operation could send at least 34 people to SW for a year!! So basically, is it just my area that doesn't offer SW on referral or are others slow on the uptake too?I believe that I have the strength to make my dreams come true:T September Challenge £5 per day - £0/£150 :T0 -
I have also bee n having trouble posting this week. My posts keep on disappearing so I'm keeping this one short. Went for my weigh in on tuesday, but sadly I put on 1/2lb. Therefore I am writing everything down as I want a good weight loss this week to get me into the 12 stone somethings.

SpiritJoined Slimming World originally in December 05 at 17st 9lb and then followed a very hilly route. I now weigh 11st 12 lbs. Whoops, I'll now have to confess to being 12st 12lbs.:o0 -
I put on 2 lbs - bad bad bad!!! Slap my wrists!
(Not too bad really for the amount of biscuits I ate last week :rotfl:)
I am going to stick to it this week, although it will be difficult as we are staying with the in-laws this weekend. I will just have to take my own carrot sticks!
By the way, I made that carrot cake from the website yesterday, took 1/4 of it to work with me last night, and got back to find the rest of them had scoffed the lot! What is it about my diet food that is so attractive to other people??0 -
Hi all,
Well I went to SW for the first time since last June and was pleasantly surprised with my weigh in (Phew)
I now need to get my head around Extra Easy which does seem strange after doing red and green.
I have one question if someone could answer, how many syns would you have- I have been told that you should only have 1 syn for each stone you weigh up to a maximum of 15 obviously?
Well done to all losers and sts and good luck to all thsoe that are weighing in today

Nope - as far as I understand, that's not the official SW line at all (although it's not a bad rule of thumb!!)
You should have between 5 and 15 syns daily - enough that you should not feel deprived.
When I started, my consultant (at the time) said that she recommended I aim for about 10 syns (no, I did NOT wiegh 10 stone - still don't :rotfl:), but if I felt deprived, then put it up to 12. This is roughly what I have always done, knowing that there are the extra 3-5 syns there when I want them (lets face it, there are days the extra couple makes all the difference!)0 -
Been to my weigh in and Ive lost 2.5lb. Im over the moon. I have been trying hard this week though. Considering there was a Thorntons stall next to me in the hospital where I do voluntary work Ive done well. I even refused a creme egg the other day. I think my saving grace has been the quiche and taking it to work with me. The edge was taken off a bit though. Someone joined tonight who I know. She said I dont know how youve lost weight all the tea you drink at the hospital. One its not true but she is always having a dig at me. But I said well tea is free and walked away. I dont need toxic people around me.
Well done to everyone who has lost and well done to everyone else who are doing their best.0 -
Hi all,
Can I rejoin (again!) please?!
I finally have some stability in my life now I've finally passed my driving test and things are work are going well. I had flu last week and ate all the crap under the sun but as soon as I felt better I've decided to give SW a go again and already since Monday I've lost 3lb!
I want to lose 3 stone ultimately though will be thrilled to lose just 1 to start with.
How long would it realistically take to lose 3 stone, is by the end of the year pushing it?They have the internet on computers now?! - Homer Simpson

Been back doing SW for 4wks now and have lost 1st 1.5lbs so far (still have some way to go) am aiming for my 1 1/2 stone and then my club 10 at the mo.
I made the free SW quiche today for the first time (with pasta n sauce) but think I must have gone wrong somewhere as it just looked like pasta with cottage cheese mixed init was cooked through and tasted ok just looked odd! Any tips?
Also I just read above that using the same B choices can harm your weight loss. I usually have oat so simple and scan bran for brekkie cos its quick easy and filling. Is it a problem having the same cereal every day? My other B choice is usually meat or cheese on a green day.
Lastly a syns question. I've only been using 5-7 syns a day - do you think I'd be better upping it to nearer 10? I'm still breastfeeding my 7m old but worry about using too many syns early in the day incase I get the munchies and fancy something in the evenings BUT usually I don't. And am I ok saving some syns up this week so I can enjoy a creme egg and hot cross bun on sunday? YUM
thanksMum of 7 (aged 14y to 1y)
loving SW - 5st off and counting! :j0
