A couple people on the previous page asked for the 3 bean chilli recipe. Its from the Oct 08 mag and is 75p per serving so very MSE. I love this recipe but adapt it slightly, instead of buying all those different tins of beans i buy 2 of the Asda Organic mixed beans in water. They are cheaper than all the others and are free as are in water. If the kids are having it i sometimes add 1/2 a tin of baked beans also, this makes it richer. So it ends up about 5 bean chilli lol but still tasty.

    Free on EE and Green
    Serves 4
    Time to table 30 mins

    1 onion
    3 Garlic cloves
    400g can Red Kidney beans
    400g can Mixed Beans
    200g can Chickpeas
A small handful of fresh coriander or 1Tbsp dried
    Fry light
1-2 tsp Chilli powder ( i also add dried crushed chilli flakes for extra flavour)
    1 tsp ground cinnamon
    2 tbsp ground cumin
    2 x 400g tin chopped toms
    1 tsp artificial sweetener
    salt and pepper to taste
4 tbsp very low-fat Fromage frais
    A pinch of paprika

1.Finely chop the onion and garlic cloves. Drain and rinse the beans and chickpeas. Roughly chop the coriander.

2 Spray a large saucepan with frylight and place over a med heat. Add the onion and garlic, and stir-fry for 2-3 mins.

    3. Add the chilli powder, cinnamon, cumin, toms and artificial sweetener. Bring to the boil. Season well, cover tightly and cook over a low heat for 10 mins.

    4. Add the beans and chickpeas. Mix well. Return to the heat for a further 10 mins.

    5. Serve in warm bowls. Spoon over a tablespoon of fromage frais, sprinkle with paprika and coriander.

serve with boiled rice or SW chips.
this is also great the next day.

I made this two weeks ago though I followed the recipe to the letter. I ended up with enough for two huge lunches for myself (I always have to have a large lunch in the week) and it was delicious. Kept me going all afternoon as well :)

    Hello all!

I joined this thread quite a few months back and have been doing awful since, I started in January , and its not augest ive only managed to keep 3lbs off. My consultant is amazing. she texts me all the time doesnt moan if i dont make the meeting and is giving me ideas constantly about meals and things.

I just dont have no motivation , im 17 years old and weigh just under 18stone :( yes i know appalling and disgusting.
I work with children which i love and i want to get fitter for my own health and to keep up with the kids and feel good about myself. Also i suffer from PCOS (polly cystic ovarian syndrome) and my medication for it (mainly birth control for periods) are changed all the time some times making me more hungry some times making me feel to bloated to eat.

I also suffer asthma which i take pumps and tablets for so its not brilliant. My doctor moans at me all the time for my weight as does my mum..,

But to be perfectly honest with you all now - i dont know how to stay on plan and i dont know how to focus my motivation , i go to my group with my best friend and she is doing brilliant , we also have one slimming world meal a week together which helps , she tries to motivate me but nothing works..

sorry for the huge moan , the only other thing i can think of doing is following this great thread and hope some of you motivation rubs onto me because im fed up but i know its my own fault :(

    sorry for the rambling/rant.

    Hello and welcome.

I struggle with motivation as well, i have been doing since May and have only managed to loose 10lb. I find the feeling that i get when i get on the scales and i am told i have lost x amount of lbs is fantastic.

I also have an addiction to chocolate and really struggle with not overeating it, although have been loads better in the last 2 weeks. I have found if i eat a milky way then that will do the job for me.

With regards to keeping fit, i have joined the gym and am loving it, at first i felt very uncomfortable as i felt everyone was looking at me, but then more and more people were going who were doing it for the same reasons.

Also loosing those 10lbs and going to the gym has improved my asthma loads, infact its the best its been in 10 years.

I also try and stay to every meeting as this helps me keep on track.

Good luck and keep at it, you will do it.

The first time I did slimming world I was 18 and at first I really struggled to stick to it, I think in my head although I was overweight I thought as I was so young compared to everyone else in the group that it didn't matter if I cheated a bit. I went with my mum and she was great at it and helped to motivate me, but I found it hard being out and about with my friends and they would eat crap and I used to think "oh well I'm not eating as much as them so it will be fine." In the end I gave myself a 'talking to'. I realised that if I wanted to lose the weight I had to really stick to it. It does work if you stick to it, and if you do a really good few weeks it just gets easier as you go along. I also used to feel like it was really unfair that I had to worry about it as I was only young, but the truth was I did, so I had to come to terms with that!

I would plan what to eat for lunch as that was usually when I would eat junk, or in the evenings after I had been out drinking (cheesey chips! Mmmm! :) ) I would do free days all week and then have a big night out on a sat and drink and eat some chips or something which I know isn't ideal but it still seemed to work for me. I lost 3 stone and got to my target weight then, but as soon as I lost the weight I stopped going and fell back into bad ways (admittedly not half as bad, as I am a bit of a health food nut, but just eat too much of it.) Now 8 yrs on (wow really? 8 years!!! I'm getting old!) and 1 child later I have put on 4 stone which I need to shift, hence why I am back on the eating plan. Another thing I found useful was to eat free in the daytime and then use my syns for a really nice dinner with dessert or treat afterwards.

It is easier to lose weight when you are young so seize the opportunity I wish I had kept it up. Good luck to you, it can be really hard but you will get there. I may be wrong but I thought that a really good diet could help PCOS too, so you could try using your health as a motivator, also have you found an exercise that you like to do/ can handle doing regularly? I enjoy yoga which is toning rather than fat burning, but my main aim is health not particularly weight loss, though they go hand in hand. I also enjoy walking and swimming too.

what is the woman of the year thing? we did nominations last week and vote this week but I really don't know how you pick someone or what happens to the winner at group? just curious

Woman of the year is a group competition which leads to a national competition. Members of the group will vote for one member who, to them, is a source of motivation - maybe someone who is a busy Mum or carer but still manages to remain positive and an inspiration to others. She should have lost over 3 stones though she does not have to be at target.

The winner of each group comp can go onto District level and ultimately National level. She has to fulfill certain criteria at national level (ie: have copies of her weight loss chart from the beginning (in the passport within your book) and have lost all the weight without artificial support (ie: lapband, weight-loss tablets etc). The prizes at National level are amazing, but the standard is very high.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
