I put on half a pound at WI & its totally got me down, silly i guess when i think how much half a pound actually is but id done well in my 1st 2 weeks (6.5 pound) & i have so much to lose. I was fed up before & now im a million times worse.
Came home & had pasta & sauce & 2 quorn sasuages tho so at least i havent done anythign silly eating wise!
Sorry, just wanted to tell someone, i feel a failure

hey Princess Kate - I know I'm late replying to this - but have just been catching up. I totally understand how demoralising it is to put anything on - but try and remember its just a number on a scale. You have made a brilliant choice to follow the SW plan - and you are doing your body a HUGE favour by giving it good, healthy and filling food! You are NOT a failure - keep making the choice every day to stick with the plan - (but make sure you have your syns!) - and that half a pound and more will be gone soon enough.

And before I sound like a pain in the bum - I anticipate a gain tomorrow at WI - so will be quoting this back at myself!;)

Mincemeat (the fruit one not the meat one) cous cous cake

    4oz cous cous

    x3 eggs
    x4 tablespoons sweetener
    X2 teaspoons of mixed spice
    2 heaped tablespoons mincemeat
    juice from 1 lemon

Heat the oven to 180, soak the cous cous in boiling water (normally use double the height of cous cous) add the sweetener, mixed spice and lemon juice with the water, stir and wait for it to soak in.Add the mincemeat whisk the eggs then add them too and mix well.Pour into a greased loaf tin and bake for 40 mins

The whole cake is only 2 sins on a green day!!!

I found this on another site, is it allowed and did anyone try it? it sounds too good to be true lol :j

    Olly

Mincemeat is 2 syns per tablespoon so would be 4 just for the mincemeat! Cous cous is still free on green but not if used as flour - then you are supposed to syn it!;)

I've just spent the last hour or so reading through all the posts on here and feel inspired!

I'm trying to follow SW EE at home as classes are really difficult to get to.

I'm 5' 5" and currently weight 10st 8lb (ish), I have a energetic lifestyle, don't drink but the scales just keep on going up!

    Today I have had:

B: Bitesize shreaded wheat (HEA) & ss milk (HEB), Tea (1 sugar, 1 syn)
L: Pasta, chopped tomatoes & tuna, Tea (1 sugar, 1 syn)
S: Apple and a Hot Chocolate (from machine when watching boys swimming, syns?)
D: Pasta, mixed leaves, chicken, beatroot (Tesco Finest beetroot sald, can't find syn values) and 2 Muller lights

No actual exercise today, manically cleaned house and 30 mins hard core gardening.

I think I'm doin ok but would really welcome some advice as scales just not going down.

Not really feeling the cous cous cake to be honest - i am making CHOCOLATE CHEESECAKE on Wed wahoooooooooo - 12 syns for the whole thing and i'm eating the lot :) - i love cheesecake and i have missed it for the past 3 weeks ;) mmmmmmmmmmmmmm cheesecake lol! oo and my joe's come Wed - free burgers yay yay with wholemeal rolls and bacon mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Oh, I spotted a recipe for really low syn chocolate cheesecake somewhere the other day - but I haven't tried it. Has anyone else? I think I'd use real cocoa rather than options but... heh...

Apologies if this is someone's recipe and I've pinched it!

    Choccy cheesecake
0.5 sins per serving (Serves 4)
    Ingredients;
227g/8oz very low fat cottage cheese
113g/4oz very low fat natural fromage frais
1 sachet Ovaltine Options, chocolate (2.0sins)
    Canderel, to taste
    1 Egg

    Method;
Preheat the oven to 180C,350F or Gas Mark 4.
Place the cottage cheese, fromage frais and chocolate option in a liquidizer,
add some Canderel to taste and blend until smooth.
Beat the egg and fold into the chocolate cheese mixture. Pour into an
ovenproof dish and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Allow the
    cheesecake to cool before serving.

Sounds nice.... I'm REeeeeeeeeALLY hungry tonight - had to take a steroid tablet earlier and I have a munchies monster on my back, demanding cake, but I don't have the ingredients to make anything low syn. Booo!

    Hi - welcome :j

Your food diary looks fine - you certainly aren't making any obvious 'mistakes' but with EE, SW recommend that for best results you eat 1/3 of your total food eaten as superfree food. Also, are you drinking lots of water? 1.5 to 2 L per day is reommended for weight loss, and that is a lot!

Today, your superfree foods were: chopped tomatoes, apple, leaves, beetroot and mullers.

I might suggest that to make a difference you might want to increase the amount of superfree food you are eating, maybe to half of your plate at each meal.

If you think of your lunch of pasta, try to imagine at least 1/3 of your plate (to the same height as the pasta) as salad and you see what I mean. You will find your intake of veg and salad will increase dramatically!

I assume you weigh your portion of breakfast cereal, and measure your milk?

    Hi Angie,

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! That makes total sense and I'll try to stick to that from tommorow!
I'm ashamed to admit I'm a Food Technologist (have a degree in it!), I know what is right diet wise, just really struggle to stick to it x

  • lol! amongst many other job descriptions, I taught food tech to 11-18yr olds.

Have you attended a class to get the books and information. I hear that you cannot attend a class regularly, but you will find it all much easier once you know the 'rules' and you have a little book to refer to! Even just attending one class will get you all the books you need to follow the plan at home.

I am similar to you though - I like food (don't we all :rotfl:), so for years I have just eaten a bit too much of the wrong stuff! I like SW as I can eat the food I like, whilst learning to apply a little moderation to the foods I know I should cut back on.

speak soon - and feel free to post another daily menu - we will gladly help if we can.

When are you weighing yourself, and how long have you been following the plan?
  • Hi - I am really enjoying reading all the posts on this thread - there is so much that I just didn't know about SW - however I just don't get how you can "misuse" free food - on the book pages about free food it says that you can eat as much as you like without measuring or weighing of any kind. So how can making a cous cous cake be any different? I understand about the blending - you can eat artificially large quantities of stuff like fruit that way, but I don't understand what food misuse is.

  • On the green free pages, under the list of cous cous, rice, bulgar wheat, grains etc, you will see that it clearly states 'if used as a subsitute for flour these foods must be synned'

The basic gist is that whilst you can eat a quantity of cous cous as part of a meal (tagine and cous cous for example), it is possible that some people would eat a greater quantity if it was presented as cake - or even, would eat lots of cake and then be too full to eat the more 'healthy diet appropriate' meal.

Another example is 'lasagne crisps' - ie, it is fine to eat pasta on a green day, but some people took to baking plain boiled lasagne sheets in the oven and snacking on them like crisps. This is another example of 'misuse of free food'.

IMHO I believe SW is trying to help us break some dietary habits - If we stay in the habit of thinking some cakes or crisps are 'free' foods, and can be eaten in unlimited quantites, it is easy to stay with our old (bad) eating habits, and slowly drift back to the mid morning cake/crisps/whatever. Whereas, if we are able to replace our snacks with (for example) a fruit or yogurt, in the long term we are creating habits that will give us a healthy eating plan for life.

    does that help to explain?
