Yes, I'm sorry about that - the recipe is rather old and since then making cakes from couscous has become a no-no. It's classed as misuse of free food, which can result in your weight loss slowing down unacceptably (or even stopping altogether). I will delete the recipe.

In group, there is a Delicious Deserts book which has some very yummy recipes, though not cakes or biccies I'm afraid. This is one area not too well covered, but if you go onto the website and have a trawl through the archives there are definitely some luscious cskes........your only problem here is to stop at the one slice which will be well within your syn allowance. The best way IMO is too cut the cake into slices immediately it's cooled enough, take out the slice you're allowing yourself and pop the rest straight in the freezer.

Thanks i have made the cherry claufotis for dessert after our roast chicken dinner later .....had a sneaky taste an was surprised how nice it was i thought it would be more omeletty

Puzzled at the syn value though do vanilla and almond extract have syns in ?? (all the other ingredients are free foods)

Hiya, I did introduce myself on here a couple weeks ago, but I fell off the wagon over my birthday due to meals out and drinks and suchlike, so figured was time to haul myself back onto it now and start afresh.

I've bought an old welcome pack and some books, and I get the general idea, as if I joned SW i'd have to give up going to the gyym to afford it and have the free time to get to a class, which doesn't seem like that good an idea!

I want to do Extra Easy, as the green/red days don't make that much sense to me - I want to be able to eat everything together.
However, I bought a pile of 2008 SW magazines, thinking they'd be useful for inspiration and recipe ideas and that, and there's a few recipes I'd like to try, but all the recipes are only quoted in red and green syns, not extra easy. So how do I work this out?

I'm also attempting my first meal plan for the week, awkward as I like eating my main meal at lunchtime, when I'm hungry so have to plan for cold or microwave reheatable stuff I can take to work. Any lunch ideas would be very welcome!

Thanks v much if you can help!

    Hi all,

So, I am about a week or so in and I really don't feel like I lost anything which is really disheartening. I woke up feeling like that and as a result had a really bad day and went totally off plan. I'd planned on having a sensible day with about 8-10 sins and ended up having:

B: Nectarine, strawbs, yog and scan bran cake
S: Frozen muller, rice crispie cakes x 3, 3 massive chunks of toffee (which I didn't even enjoy in the end)
L: McCain chips & ketchup with melted baby bel (no idea on the syns) 2 small glasses wine
    S: Walkers baked crisps
D: Large salad, greek yog with options and another natural yog with options and a small (tiny cos it was the end of the bottle) glass of wine

So, I will definitely not be losing this week. I am really sad and annoyed with myself as I had been almost 100% on plan this week, even with a big lunch out earlier in the week.

Also I really wanted proof that I can lose weight on SW so that I can keep on with the principles while I am on hols knowing that it shows results.

Will have to have a word with myself and get it together for the next few days before going away.

I'm also finding this regime quite expensive which is tricky, but I will try and work on that when I get back.

Does anyone have any suggestions for nice puddings? I'm finding that's what gets me through and although I love yog's, I feel I might turn into one at this rate.

    Thanks

hello, yes I'm sure Muller Fat free are syn free! I think Muller Rice does have syns but I've never eaten it so I can't be sure.

Can someone knowledgeable please advise me if the potato salad I just made, a variation of a yummy Madhur Jaffrey recipe, is free?

New potatoes, boiled and drained (I microwave them so cut them to 3/4 inch cubes before cooking)
Spray the potatoes with frylight (olive oil in a spray for me)
Add some chilli powder, a few fennel seeds, garam masala or any spices you like and stir about to coat the potatoes, microwave for aminute to cook the spices
Then stir in enough fat free plain yog to coat the potatoes and have a bit spare, just likea "real" potato salad.

I do hope its free because I tasted it, loved it, and accidentally ate it all (it was supposed to be for work tomorrow). If it is free, it's the first time I've actually enjoyed anything made with fat free plain yog. Fingers crossed, and thanks.

Sophster, sugar free jellies are free and you can add fruit (I use frozen fruit, just don't use banana as it goes black!) - you can add yoghurt to the jelly too when you are making it, when it has cooled a bit, it comes out like trifle then as the jelly and yog separate. Meringue nests are a few syns each if you want something really sweet with your jelly and fruit.

As far as I'm aware, sugar-free jellies are 2 syns per sachet. Not a lot, but need to be counted. Meringue nests average about 3 syns.

If you whisk madly with the yoghurt (having only used ½ pint water to make up the jelly, you end up with a mousse which is delicious and makes the jelly goes a long way (it almost doubles in volume if you whisk hard enough).

Muller Rice are masses of syns each (10-ish) so avoid at all costs.

Your potato salad sounds yummy and would be syn-free I'm sure.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

Right, I'm off on holiday for a few days now. Be good everyone :D

Shaz...........I think the syns will be for the cherries which are 'cooked' in the recipe.

Sugar free jelly in a sachet is 1.5 syns per sachet, i usually make 3 so its easier to work out the syns.
  • Hello Everyone,

Could anyone help me at all with regards to syns. I can not stand fat free yoghurt as a mayonnaise substitute and would prefer to have the real thing instead of maybe a dessert after dinner.

Could anyone please let me know how many syns are in a 1tbsp on Hellman’s Light mayonnaise.

    Thanks
