Hi there, I just started SW last week - a bit of an odd time to start as I am off on hols at the end of next week, so not likely to be able to stick to it completely but I'd like to try learn the principles before I go so that I can make good choices while I am away. I hope SW turns out to be a success as I have lost and gained the same 5lbs for the last 6-9 months (on WW at home) and it's doing my head in. I have previously lost 1st on WW and found it really easy, I'm not sure why it's been so difficult this time.

So, anyway I am being taken out tomorrow to say thanks for getting a job completed (albeit in a long and drawn-out way thanks to the client) and I'd like to enjoy myself. Could someone please have a look at my menu plan and see if I am missing anything? (red day)

B: Apple, strawbs, pineapple, LF yog
    S: Banana
L: Mini mozarella salad to start (HEA) will have to remember not to eat all the mozz, Grilled tuna steak (HEB) with grilled toms. To be accompanied by wine (flexible syns to account for 1/2+ bottle?)
D: Butternut soup, LF yog & scan bran cake (HEB)

yes you can drink more than 2 litres if you want to but dont' force it. Massive amounts of water is as bad as none - can cause brain damage (though we're talking 10 litres plus!)

    Your menu looks good

You could have extra easy and have best of both worlds? IE could have some potatoes with your tuna or something?

LOL I dont think I drink 10 litres, but I dont force the water down, I am quite a good water drinker anyway lol, I probs have between 3-4 litres of water a day, and I do feel I need that, I get quite thirsty (might be something to do with the amout of coffee I drink? cos I have about 8 cups of that a day as well) so its not forced down me, but maybe I should cut back too?

Thanks - I don't think I get how Extra Easy works then. I keep seeing things that say EE = 1 HEA and 1 HEB per day, the rest is free.

So how would that change my menu? if I add potatoes in, do I have to take something away?

    It's all so confusing...!

Hi i noticed on your meal plan you had heb next to the tuna, but that would be free on a red day, not sure if I missed something there.

For an EE day you have 1 hea and 1 heb. - so you could still have your mozzarella and scan bran .
Then everything that is normally free on a red or green day you can eat freely on EE. eg as tuna is free on a red day and potaotes are free on a green day you can have as much as you want of those on the same plate.

I hope that makes sense, if not im sure someone can explain better. You should have got a yellow book in your starter pack, its pretty straight forward when its explained properly. hth

thats just an example, you can mix and number of free foods on EE as long as your just having those 1 hea and 1 heb. you can have the same amount of syns as you would on red and green, you just choose the lower syn value if there is a difference.

Hi I just had another look at your menu, I cant see any syns in your menu. You mentioned using flexi syns for the wine. half a bottle of wine is 12 syns, so you'd still be in your daily limit. That would also give you a few syns incase something has dressing etc. you can also have 42g of mozzarella, so maybe weigh someting similar before you go and it might give you a rough idea when your eating it.

You're right about the tuna - I'm stuck in the green day mentality!

I see what you mean about the EE - although I still can't quite get my head around the concept of restricting dairy and bread and then eat as much as you like of everything else (free foods) - it doesn't make sense in my head that you do that, could stuff yourself silly and essentially end up with a weight loss??? Seems like there should be a catch! Maybe once I have seen some results on SW, I will get it?

I guess I'm a bit unsure as it seems SW is all about eating the 'right foods' most of the time with a few treats. Well this isn't too different from how I was eating on WW (and even when I am not following a diet I eat pretty well, but maybe have a few too many treats) - and now I seem to be eating more than before.

As for syns, it is quite possible the 1/2 bottle might turn into more than that, so I thought it best to refrain in that department and because there may well be some dressing like you say.

    Thanks!

Ive personally never lost much with EE. Its alright when I do one or two days then the rest red/ green. but after xmas I tried EE everyday and either sts or lost 1lb here and there. I find its not srtict enough for me. i usually have EE at the weekend when my bf is home so we can enjoy a chicken curry or real mince lasagne instead of quorn.
I do know that when I went to class quite a few ladies were doing EE all the time and were still losing. My body just seems to work better when I dont combine foods ie on a green day I never have meat and on a red day I never have potatoes or pasta.

My main difficulty when dieting is alcohol, especially Friday night! I love Malibu and when I start drinking it I just want one glass after another. Whats the most low calorie way to drink? A wine with low cal lemonade to make it a bigger drink?
