Went to wi on Tuesday and sts, bit disappointing but its better than putting on.
I find my problem is that i don't write anything down, so forget what i have eaten.
I am going to try and make an effort this week to do my food diary.
I also find it hard to give something a syn value unless i have got the recipie or box etc
For instance today i have chicken tikka massala at work, it is all made from scratch, but without getting the recipie from the chef how do i syn it.
I am doing EE today so the rice and chicken would be free but what about the sauce.
Also when i have food off the salad bar, how to measure 28g of cheese for instance?
Any advice would be most appreciated.

Do you have the Food Directory? There are all the syns you're liable to need listed there and the new book (just out) is a little easier to understand than last years I think.

If you're using a jar of sauce, go onto the website under 'syns online' and look it up then divide the syns by the number of portions it will serve.

It's really best not to try and guesstimate weights I find. That cheese would be better left off or take a weighed portion from home to add to your salad.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

    Hi all,

Hope it's OK if I join in. I have been reading the thread for a few weeks now and could really do with some support/help. I joined online two weeks ago. I am hypothyroid and have been really ill for a few years now. Because it took so long to diagnose I put on nearly 4 stone even though I was eating next to nothing.
I have tried so hard to lose even a small amount but it just won't budge.

Since I have been doing this I haven't lost at all. I am so worried that I never will. I have stuck religiously to ee, kept sins to a minimum but ate loads of fresh veg and fruit. I am wondering if it is because my metabolism is just shot to pieces. I have been eating salads and stuff all the while I've been ill.

    Yeasterday I ate

    Breakfast

    2 egg omellette no oil
melon with onken fat free yoghurt

    snack 10 almonds

lunch chicken breast, lettuce , cucumber, radish, tomatoes, onions and grated carrot

    snack pear and banana

dinner piece veal, sprouts, brocolli, 4 new potatoes

I use my milk for tea as I do drink a lot of it.

Can anyone see if I am doing anything wrong or is there anyone else with thyroid probs.

    Thanks

I'm sorry about your ill health. I'm sure as you have said that your metabolism will be all over the place, but following such a healthy plan will help to get you back on track. Your menu looks excellent, but you could try to bulk it up with even more veg with your dinner (perhaps carrots and cauliflower).

It might help if you took a copy of a weeks menu to your GP and ask him what he thinks. I'm sure he'll be very supportive as you're trying so hard to help yourself.

In my opinion, you're not doing anything wrong but I expect it will take time to sort out your medication (sorry if I've assumed wrong and you're not on medication). O've had several members in my groups who have thyroid problems.....their weight losses can be a little slow, but they do lose and some have even been able to lower their doses of medication as a result.

Good luck. Keep going and keep posting :)

Tamazapan - Joining group is half price at the moment (£5 instead of £10). If you're a shift worker, you don't have to pay for missed classes.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
  • Hello again - lost 1 lb this week, which is not bad considering what I have eaten. I picked up a food diary which I plan to complete this week as I find that usually keeps me on track. Apparently most people who complete them miss out 43% of what they actually eat - eeek!

Anyone know how many syns are in vegetarian sushi?

    Thanks

  • Hey guys! Just got some Skinny Cow triple choc lollies for 2 for £3 in Asda :) Does anyone know how many syns they are?

Drove to my nearest Sainsburys today and got the eight muller lights for £2 also so the offer is still on which is great as they have gone back up from 20p to 54p in Asda :(
  • Hi consultant31,
Thanks for the reply. You are correct, I have to take 200mcg thyroxine a day. I am wondering if because I have been on less than 1200 calories a day for so many years, if I am now just eating too much. I am unsure how to get a break on this. My GP had no suggestions when I took a food diary to her as she said my daily eating looked healthy.
You mentioned bulking up my dinner, but I really have trouble eating the amount I am eating as one of my worse symptoms over the years was never feeling hungry. Sometimes I just forgot to eat and I know that is just as bad. I will keep with it and hope that it works over time. I just felt it would be good to have a little support and maybe if the others with thyroid issues read this they will let me know their experience.

    Thanks again.

:o I am here...honest! WI last night and lost 2lb (and in jeans!!!), so back in target range, so must must must keep track and try and get my head sorted. Ive started a new, very boring job, which requires me to sit and vegetate for about 95% of the time  so I sit there with not much to do. I also dont get a lunch break/coffee break and have to have those whilst I work, which means I end up grabbing anything close by :o SO I need some fresh ideas for lunches/snacks which dont need to be fridged/reheated/eaten on a plate lol. I have taken in pasta salads, good old alpen lights, and last saturday my OH made me pasta, hm tom and veg sauce and 42g half fat cheese and delivered it to work, fresh and hot :A was lush! Im not normally stuck for ideas but I am now.....and there is a bakery close work....

Right, on to my food today!

    B: 2 x alpen light (HEB)
